T5 vho

I just bought a new 8 bulb t5 vho fixture and was wondering what everyones thoughts were on how high to hang it off the water.The tank is only 18 inches deep and will be a mixed reef.

Really depends on which fixture it is.
When I bought my ATI Sunpower fixture, I was advised to hang it 8-10 inches off the waters surface for zoanthids.
I would guess that would be a good height for most softies and lps. For sps, maybe a few inches lower.
What fixture is your T-5 ?

fwiw vho's are different than T-5

a 4' vho t5 is 90w, 8-90w bulbs you will cook your corals with an 18" deep tank! plus you will have a very hard time finding reef bulbs for it, it is a grow light

bring it back and get a regular t5-ho light 4'bulb =54w

or hang it like 5 feet above your tank

4' ho t5 = 54w each, 4'vho t5 =90w each

720w t5 is way to much for any 18" deep tank

Always thought vho lighting was a different bulb/ballast than T5.

I thought the vho bulb was 1-1/2" dia bulb and T-5 was the 5/8" dia bulb.

i have a 48" t5 vho 8 bulb light on my 30" deep tank and mine is hung 18" above my waters surface and anything just below the water line will cook so with your 18" deep tank your gonna need to go at least 24" above your water line

We have 4'x4' only 15 inches deep at work and we use a couple of these at work but the 12 bulb versions.The one I have is an eight bulb 95 watts/bulb.The fixtures at work were measured today at 10 inches off the water.They are only used on our sps tanks.I think I'm going to hang it 18 inches off the water and see what happens.I would like to thank everyone for the responses.
