Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone has used a industrial overhead light setup in their aquarium and what the potential differences would be. i found a 6 light T5HO setup for about $120 shipped and was considering replacing my PC setup with this. Seems like a heck of a deal and a good DIY setup since my lights will be installed in my hood and not visible.

Thoughts?

I agree wit the previous statement. When you buy the fixtures that are designed for aquarium use, you are pay for the reflectors.

make your own reflectors, you"ll have to replace all your bulbs. and that = more $$$$.

Check the input voltages or you might be stuck with 220v or higher voltage ballasts. Many, like the ones used in Home Depot's, were designed to use the same lines as the previous 277 volt halides. Also, the reflectors are passive (no fan) for cooling, so they either kill the bulbs faster, or they have slots in the backside of the reflector (lost light).
