I was thinking of going to t5's. Would a 6x54watt fixture be able to support a mostly SPS tank?? 75 gallon tank 48Lx19Hx18W. I was looking at the TEK from sunlight supply with ATI bulbs.

Thanks for the help Don:wink:

Those lights should be fine for SPS. Tek and ATI are excellent brands.

I don't think it can... Unless you want a tank that looks like my old 90 did.

Considering you said 75g and that 90g has a good 3-4 inches on that 75 as far as water column height goes I think you should be fine. But to make sure of it, nothing wrong with going 8x54

I ran a 75 gallon, predominately SPS tank, for several years, with a Sunlight Supply Tek5, 6 bulb. Make sure you're looking at the Tek5 and not the Tek, as there is a difference. The Tek5 is actually made for reef tanks, and has 2 cords, 2 switches. The Tek is made for agricultural use and only has 1 cord, 1 switch. The hardware also isn't stainless steel so not as corrosion resistant with saltwater.

That same fixture, along with a 4 bulb Tek5, is now over my 200 Deep Dimension, also predominately SPS and 27" deep! I can grow any SPS I want, including high light demanding Acropora torts, on the bottom of the tank.

I wouldn't bother going with an 8 bulb Tek5 as it's wider than the 75 and will be a waste of light, spilling over. The 6 bulb Tek5 is perfect over a 75 or 90.

You will be just fine with a 6 bulb fixture on a 75. I am running a 12x39W on my 125 right now and I everything looks great. My SPS are growing like crazy and the colors are better than ever. I liked my halides but I love the T5s.

Yes its a tek5 im looking from bulkreefsupply or marine depot about the same price. Thanks for the info:bigsmile:

I just removed my 6 bulb T5 setup from my 120g tank and it supported SPS's just fine in the larger tank. I upgraded to LED's though.

That was a wonderful album to look through, I hope one day my 75 will look that good! 6 T5's you say?! even better.. can I askwhat bulb combo you used? Thank you!!! Loved looking through the album..

If you go with the 6 bulb tek. Get the tek elite with the cooling fans.
The active cooling maintains par longer than non cooled version
6 bulb on a 75 with ATI bulbs will support sps no problem.

i run a 4 bulb t5 3 KZ super blues 1 KZ fiji purple with sps just fine. all my sps are keep at mid to high on the rocks. on reefgeek.com it says a ATI 6 bulb t5 fixture Common Sizing Guideline: soft coral tanks up to 160 gallons, mixed reef tanks up to 130 gallons and SPS dominated tanks up to 110 gallons. Recommended Tank Depth: up to 30" with carefully planned placement of corals.

Do you have a picture of your tank????

So i just bought my 6 54W TEK T5 fixture. I havent bought the bulbs yet. When i do im going with the ATI,what color combos should i go with to grow SPS well??

When I get my 6 bulb I'm going with all kz bulbs only $2 bucks more each then the ati at my lfs but 4 super blues 1 Fiji purple and 1 new gen. Or for a little better growth 3 blue 1 purple 2 new gen. I like the color combo both blue with a nice clean white in the mix.
