This was the 2nd time. 1st time was on the side of my hand and I yanked him out of the tank it startled me so bad. He's only 14" long so I never thought that he could open his mouth that wide.

Keep your hands away from HIS zoas and that won't happen again ;) . I've been attacked by my fish, but have never had blood drawn. Is it just the presence of your hand?

I would make him fear you, Maybe chase him around with your hand.
When he gets bigger he can do more damage.
You have to let triggers know the same way or end up with a chunk out of ya.
That reminds me when i kept piranha's. I just got done feeding them and stuck mu arm in and they rushed after it. I yanked my hand out so fast. LOL
These were 11 -12 inch fish.

agreed, my clowns used to bite my arm every time it went into the tank, but i started chasing them and flicking my finger at them, make them understand who is playing god in this relationship.

We had Pirana's in college and m roomate ended up with 12 stiches.

It was the doctors first pirana bite LOL!

It really didn't hurt that bad this time. It just scared the wizz out of me it was so fast. When he bit my hand, that did hurt. His teeth are angled towards the back so I was lucky to get him off so easily. LOL easily, I launched him across the room.

Make him fear me? I've got a female maroon in my 90 that I've had for about 8 years. She is now big enough to take a chunk out of me. We've been fighting for years now and she could care less about who is her provider. I smack her everytime I get the chance and it definately doesn't help at all. She holds a grudge and in the morning I'll find a rock in the middle of my clam or my supeman digi dumped upside down in the sandbed. A few years ago, she killed a 3 year old elegance by bombing it with rubble over the course of a few days, just because she didn't like my redecorating her tank.

She would have "died" along time ago except she is my wifes favorite fish. Plus, my wife arranged a marriage for her last year and he would be bummed. (I think)

whoa!

had couple of bites from our long gone female maroon that was 5"... as much as most people love to see Nemo in the tank, I don't think I'll have another one just because I hate being startled when they say "hello, get off my space" unexpectedly..

I can the eel being a problem when he gets a little bigger.. might take a chunk.. ouch! cool looking eel nonetheless... :)

I found that trying to teach my maroon who's boss only made it worse. I've had mine for almost 10 years now (had her longer than I've known my wife ;) ). I, too, just paired her up earlier this year and wasn't sure if it would work... I started flicking her when she started getting violent and she just got worse. She remembered me timing her approach and hitting her on the nose a few times and didn't like it. As soon as my hand hit the water, she would come out and attack, regardless of my location in the tank. I quit thumping her and our relationship has improved over the last six months or so ;) . She only kind of makes a move towards me now when I put my hand near her anemone, but she hasn't bitten me in months.

during the last months I had the female clown, I used the longer gloves and let her attack and it didn't feel like anything.. I don't know if that'll work with the eel though..

My clown will "bump" me but the one I have to watch is the dang Pistol - he doesnt like anything in his area at all and when he "shoots" it hurts like hell doesnt help hes got two pistols and usually gets me with both.

I didnt say clowns or damsels. LOL My triggers were chased around till they feared my hand.
They did fear it, One trigger resisted and i pulled out the net everytime he tried to get lippy, and that taught him. Triggers and puffers will respect ya. IMO They are pretty smart. Every time i chased my triggers they hid for a half hr.
Damsels and clowns forget it, They pop out a different hole and try to bite ya again.
My 4 inch domino damsel beat the odds for 2 years of me catching him, He bit me more times than i would have liked. he would draw blood.
Lets just say he went quick when i caught up to his behind.

Beautiful eel...sorry about the bite though. That would make me think twice about cleaning LOL. My little clown bites me from time to time...freaks me out but no damage like that.
