Tahitian maximas, yes or no?

Don't spot feed, I just place mine in the tank and try not to move them at all. Let them be. It seems the more you move them the more stressed they get and die.

Skinz, what about acclimating them to the lights in your tank? Do they need to be gradually moved higher in the light?

Yes they do, I start mine in the sandbed and slowly move them up from there. Some people place a clam shell in the sand underneath them so they can attach to it.

Mine hates every clam shell and hollow rock I give him to attach to and jumps off and burrows until only his mantle is showing. I have him in a dish of coral rubble and small rocks now.

How slowly do you move them up? I saw you have some in monti caps, I guess they behave and stay there? It looks cool.

hmmm interesting reads in this thread. I have kept the big maximas before without any issues. But maybe i got lucky and had ones that didnt have excessive import stress or damage

I actually got rid of my Monti's, too much calcium uptake and I wanted the real estate for other corals.

I've actually had Maxima's that refused to stay on rocks and stayed in the sand for years.

This one has been with me for a year now. Picked him out at Dr.Mac's myself. I actually started him up near the top of the tank after seeing the insane amount of light they were getting in his greenhouse facility. In the past 4 months I've been experimenting with him on the sand bed under my 400w ushio 14k, if I see slower growth I'll move him back up. I personally think these things just need more light than most people are giving them.
