What are the other tank mates with the dotty back? What are your parameters, and are the other fish in the tank alright? Personally this looks pretty similar to the time an emerald crab took the tail off of my Scott’s diary wrasse, and he didn’t survive more than a few days after that, so I wouldn’t expect your dotty back to live.

Just to add, my Male lyretail anthia is has also been missing for a wk, the 4 females left are being quite aggressive to each other.

230ish g tank
Ph 8.2
Alk 10
Nitrate 25
Salt 1025
Temp 24.8

It has a systemic infection. It’s advanced so not sure if the causation was injury or illness, or both. I think euthanasia is best for your dottyback. Sorry :(

Asd @SaltyT said, the tail fin has a systemic bacterial infection, and the fish should be euthanized as it won't recover. I wonder if the original issue was aggression from another fish, causing it to hide, and then it got infected? The missing male anthias is a bit of a wild card though - I wouldn't think it would have been injured by another fish, so its being missing could be a sign of some disease issue going on.

Thanks Jay, Dotty is now in fish heaven, I'm keeping a close eye on his tank mates
