My favorite fish, a Tailspot blenny, just jumped out of its tank a few minutes ago.
My cat was sniffing the carpet in front of the tank so I went to investigate. It was the fish, slowly gasping. I picked it up and tossed him back in the tank. Let's hope that he'll be okay... He's currently rapidly gasping on top of a sponge prefilter.

Fingers crossed, everyone!

Sorry to hear this; hoping it pulls though. Can you get the tank covered to prevent this in the future?

It is covered, except for about a half inch on front and back. (It's a good standard 10 gallon tank with a glass top.)

The fish had to aim just right to get out. He's been in the tank for about six months, this his first, and hopefully only, escape.
His color is good and he's perching like he always does. Hopefully he'll catch his breath soon...

Well I would not count on it not jumping again (assuming he is fine of course). I highly recommend finding a way to cover the opening(s). The glass tops normally come with the plastic strip that attached to the back of the top. Can you either switch tops or get one of those?

I'll look into that.

Happy to say that he seems to be okay. I just checked on him, he was chilling like nothing happened. When he saw me he came swimming to the front of the tank waiting for lunch and then he ate.

All is good.

i had my yellow coris do the same thing recently, i have had him for almost year!
thankfully my dad caught him, i still keep an open top but hopefully hes learned his lesson.
hes also doing much better now! we got off lucky!
thank god you cat didnt eat him!

It is only a matter of time before it jumps again :( Glad you caught it this time, but wrasses and open tops don't mix.

I would suggest that you cover the tank with a ¼" mesh screen. You can get the mesh from BRS and the frame from Lowe's or Home Depot. BRS even has directions on how to make them on site. Easy to make and will prevent this from happening again.

Good to hear!

This product, and way of covering a tank is a great one. I would recommend it to anyone asking.
