I've had 2 tailspot blennies get caught in my MP10's in the last 5 months. They get caught in them during normal operation. They love to eat the algea that grows on the pumps, and I'm assuming they get caught off guard when the pumps ramp up and down and they just get sucked in.

This sucks! I hate to loose a fish. I could add the foam guards around the pumps, but I really don't want to.

Should I try again and hope for a more cautious fish? Has anyone else had this problem?

Mine would go in the MP10 when it was shut off, never when it was actually running. I don't think the foam guard would help much, they go in the impeller side, not the outside cage.

The foam guards aren't so bad; I have one on one of three MPs, that is near a BTA that likes to stretch out. It's a small price to make sure this BTA is safe. However, you do have to pull them out and clean them at least weekly. Otherwise uneaten food decays in them. Also, when they get fairly full, they can substantially reduce the pump output, so another good reason to keep them clean.

If you keep any shrimp, they will quickly figure out that these foam guards are amazing food sources, walking all over and picking at them. :)

I've had no problems with mine and my MP40s. I run in counter-synced lagoon mode, so they never get really slow except when I manually slow them for feeding. You can try securing some nylon mesh in front of the impeller to see if that helps.

Maybe get some BRS 1/4” clear mesh and cover the front and sides.

Thanks for the feed back. I'll try another tailspot just because I love their personalities and the way they look.

And I'll try some foam guards rkpetersen
