Hi,
I have a leather coral which was my first coral, and it really hasn’t been doing well for a little over a month. I think it may have to do with poor placement, but there ain’t many options because it is on a big and clumsy plug. I’d love to take it off to rehome it into a good spot but am nervous to. Any advice on removing it from the plug, and good placement? Honestly, there may be some kind of disease that only affects leathers because they all are acting funny, but it’s especially this one, and I think it is poor flow.

I’m only saying this for sample size as it’s not the only possibility.... but leathers can go funky for weeks even months ... even weird flow can p*zz them off. Yeah I,d move it but if possible perhaps change the flow and see what shakes in a week then decide...
maybe back off the phosphate control to maybe .1 or whatever .... Very roughly: If you gotta clean your glass daily of soft bright green stuff, usually leathers kinda like that

As to removing it use a knife or sizors and cut it off as to it not being happy could be their time of the month as they do this could be flow or if not running carbon you should be with leathers

My finger leather the 2 big bareish spots up front are where a few weeks ago I wached off about 3/4 of it to reduce it in size used sizors and cut away not the first time iv done this they don't really care

Either do it out of the tank or if I have to vut it in the tank run fresh carbon and do a large water change right after as cutting it will make it relese a slim thats not great for other corals

Some leathers are easy to glue down like finger leathers, and some like toadstools are not. Keep that in mind. If you cut it off, you may have issues re-attaching it somewhere else.
