taking frags off of plugs

i usually just take a semi-sharp, straight-edged instrument (usually a blade from my scissors) and scrape along the plug, shaving the frag off. they usually just come right off. plus, if any of the mat is left on, sometimes polyps will grow from it. so, don't take em out of your tank! :) just stash em to the side :D

Why are you taking them off?

I usually leave them on it and just glue the plug where you want. 2-6 weeks later you won't even be able to tell.

taking them off is especially handy when fragging a frag that has grown. when i buy frags, i leave them on the plug until they reach fraggable size.

i then slide them off the frag plug, and cut/chisel them in half. glue one half down on rock, the other half back on the plug. this way, i've got one growing in my DT, and one ready to grow more frags, or to trade.

2-6 weeks???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I have had one in for over a month and you can still see the plug. I can tell its grown some though D:.

how do you get polyps to grow that fast. I have had them 2 weeks and they perked up, but they haven't reproduced.

combo of good water quality and lighting. I have seen growth after 2 weeks. Heck 2 of mine have grown new "arms" after 2 weeks. 1 hasnt grown at all.

I've always had good water for the most part. It's the lighting. Everything is growing great in my tank now with the 250w MHs..... Before.....only living, not growing.....

well I have a blue tort that I put probably 12" from the 250w HQI 14,000k phoenix bulb and its the ONLY sps I have that hasnt grown any since I put it in my tank. The lucky charms, superman monti, rainbow monti, some brown sps, radioactive sps and some blue tipped acro that has started to turn green (bout 15" from light) have all grown since introducing them. all of those corals are about midway down the tank (prob 18-20") from the MH light. Heck even my red shrooms are growing at the bottom of the tank (bout 33" from light). I wonder if it might have to do with water flow???? The blue tort is in one of the Lower flow parts of the tank.

I guess that I've got my stuff closer to the light. I'd have to measure it to be sure. I think the light is about 5-6 inches off the top of the tank, so maybe my sps are about 10 inches. My mushrooms are closer to the bottom and the tank is at least 30 inches deep. The mushrooms look like they would want to be higher, but I might have a little too much flow for them. They aren't coming out and expanding like they used to. My zoas are all pretty happy and the sps. Some are happy and some are not. I have a superman monti and it's living, but I can't tell much more than that. I've got a pink something or other (can't remember the name right now- Gudar wanted it.... What is it) and it's doing well along with a green and a brown sps. My frogspawns and hammers are very happy (so long as they don't fall over and break) and are starting to grow....

All and all I'm pretty happy. Bryan and Brandon didn't insult my tank as much as I thought they were going to (I was prepared to fend off the insults), but they were surprisingly nice. (shocking, really....)

well I have a 48 watt t5 and a 65watt compact fluorescent on my 29 gallon and nothing really grows. it just lives perkily. aside from xenia. I can't keep xenia. and today it seems like everything just stopped thriving. I am changing to ro water. I was opposed to the idea before, but it's becoming more appealing. heck my coral quit looking so good after increasing flow and adding a protein skimmer. it's kinda messed up to me. my water is pretty good for tap water too.
