I'm working on an upgrade from a 55 to a 90. Current fish include a pair of clowns (can't remember if ocsellaris or percula and they don't let me count their spines), 1 indigo dottyback, and a pair of diagonal bar gobies.

I'm looking for something reefsafe (softies and lps), something that will be out and active. I do prefer captive bred fish over wildcaught, if possible. Price point is $50 or less. (Per fish). No damsels or chromis. I had screens on the 55 and I can remake the frames to fit the 90.

I plan to get my gobies a pistol shrimp so shrimp eaters are out. I like the McCoskers flasher wrasse, but I'm thinking my substrate is too large if they bury themselves. (Caribsea special grade reef sand, I already have 2 40# bags so...) I had one before, but he didn't make it thru QT.

I've looked at so many fish, but I have such a hard time figuring out temperaments and compatibility with who I already have. Suggestions?

You could do a tang or two in there. I think most from Ctenochaetus genus (ex. Kole, Tomini) are "tang police" safe in a 90 gal.

A Mckoskers wrasse would be fine as they "sleep" in the rocks and not the substrate. Any fairy or flasher would work in that size tank. Zebra bar gobies are also out, active, and reefsafe. Many cardinalfish make peaceful additions, though they are not terribly active.

Cool cool. So how does this sound:
2 clowns, 2 diagonal bar gobies, 1 pistol shrimp, 1 indigo dottyback, 1 kole tang, 1 McCoskers flasher wrasse +CUC

Oh, and should I add the tang or wrasse first? Clowns et al will already be in and settled by the time first new fish finishes qt

I haven't had any luck with the blue green chromis. Bullied the clowns.

Add the Tang last. You will want the Wrasse in there as one of the first fish.

I have had a yellow tank in my 90g for 6 years. They are always the most complimented fish for me. +1 on adding him last though.

Would anthias be an option at all? I really love the colors.
