What are your best practices for in-line media reactors? I have a dual BRS reactor to run GFO and GAC. But if I don't want to run it constantly - say for example I am concerned about 0 detectable PO4 - do I need to shut off the feed, and remove the reactor media from the reactor housing? Or can I just leave it in there, and turn it on and off as needed?

Also, if I need to remove it from the fluidized reactor, can it be stored/saved, or is it wasted media, even if not spent?

I have the same question regarding a sulfer biodenitrator (Korallin 3002) and calcium reactors (Korallin 1502). Say I started up my CaRX but decided it wasn't quite necessary yet on the new tank - should I just let the effluent flow through the CaRX and shut off the CO2? Or should I remove it from the system altogether, remove the water and media, etc.?

As for the Biodenitrator, I would prefer to not have to cycle it again - can I just turn up the effluent and let more water flow through it, reducing the effective denitrifying rate?

Sorry, lots of questions, but primarily wondering about the BRS media reactor and what people do or think. Thanks!

My concern with the media reactors being left off is over the stagnant water. I wouldn't worry about it if I left them off for 2 or 3 days but any longer than that and I would empty them. My reactors tend to build up crud in them over time and I wouldn't want water to sit stagnant in that mess only to be shot into the tank when flow was restored a week or two later.

That's my thinking as well. I may just leave the GFO section empty and run GAC only.
