Ok I have a Canon xsi and I'm pretty good with it and now that I have my Radions all of my pics :crossedlips:. Any pointers on how to keep all of the cool colors of the corals with out getting them all washed out with the blue from the lights?

TIA

Was wondering the same exact thing. My pics end up washed out under the actinics.

You have to fix the WB. use a white card under the lights to adjust your WB. Should help out.

WB= White balance

+1 to that

my canon point and shoot has an auto adjust white balance which is nice

If I Set the white balance then I loose the affects (colors) the corals get from the Led's. I'm trying take a great photo but not loose the (neon) colors you get from the Led's. But then again I don't want the photo to look like a blue BLOB.

TIA

does your camera have a custom wb setting? are you trying to take picture under just the blue leds or are you doin with a white and blue combo?

Yes it has a custom WB. I'm trying to take it with my blue Led's on.

if just blue only.. first take a picture, in auto with no flash, of a white piece of paper under the led blue light. then go to custom white balance and select the photo you just took. it will say something like "use white balance from this picture" ..then once that is set then you can adjust the "wb shift/bkt" to get the color to look exactly like the coral looks.. i shoot all our pictures in a-dep mode..

i find it better to do with whites on as well..mainly because people tend to think photo shop is used with only blues on ... also you can almost get the same color in the coral with blue only as with blue and whites. once you get it figured out its very simple to make adjustments as needed .

One thing i have notice with setting the custom wb and shooting under just the blue led's is that the blue color from the corals disappear from the photos

That's my problem. I'm loosing all of those crazy neon colors you get from the Led's

If you've tried setting a custom white balance, by shooting a white object, under your blue lights, using that photo to set a CWB, and it's not to your liking, one other option remains.

Shoot in RAW and adjust the white balance in post processing.

I've always meant to ask this but never have, what are you using for Processing your pictures taken in RAW mode. Photoshop?

I use Photoshop CS5. However, Adobe Elements also works very well. There are also many free or less expensive options that deal with RAW.
