Hi R2R,

I have learned a lot from this forum so I figured I should contribute a little. I have been keeping freshwater planted tanks for years but am new to reefing. I live out in San Diego and my tank is about 1 month old. I am doing the 4 month BRS cycle and just added a pair of clownfish from Cultivated Reef as my first fish. I plan on keeping mostly softies and LPS and will eventually add a watchman goby and firefish. Below are a few pics from the first month (lights are only on for photos) and won’t be run until the 3rd month.

Welcome! I started mine a bit over a year ago. I’ve had fresh tanks since I was a kid and have kept a broad spectrum of weird, hard to raise critters and was always successful. I’ve been lurking on this site for about a decade, scared to actually jump in because it had to cost a fortune and everything needed 24/7 attention. Turns out that’s not true. You can not break the bank, though there’s no getting around the cost of salt and a proper light for the coral you keep. Everything really seems to be optional, though can be based around your water change schedule.

Anyway, congrats on jumping in. My first coral purchase was from CR as well and they all arrived live and well and have grown like crazy. You’re starting with good stock and a member of forum full of knowledge. No doubt you’ll be successful. If this moron can do it, anyone can.

Welcome home! As someone who spent a lot of time as a lurker here, making the jump into actually interacting is great. Everyone is very helpful and friendly. You should really start a build thread! They are a great way to showcase what you’ve been doing to other reefers, and help yourself keep track of what you’ve done when! Check mine out for some inspiration, I may be a little bit OCD with the details, but that’s what I do at work so it flows naturally.
