Anyone know the best way to take the plastic supports of a tank? I have to replace mine due to cracks. (the wife bought me a used tank for Christmas and it needs help). I'll buy the parts from glasscages.com .
Taking the top plastic support off a 75 gal tank.

they are siliconed on pretty well. be prepared to use soem elbow grease. get a thin but strong scraper and run it around under the lip on the outside and then on the inside. tap it with a rubber mallet. you will have to break the silicone seal that is on the top edge of the glass and on each side as well inside the lip. it can be done. start at one corner and go all the way around with teh scraper and mallet. then do the inside. you should see it starting to pop off.

Got it guys!!!!!!! Was not that difficult. A little elbow grease goes a long way.

Good deal. make sure you use a razor to remove ALL of the leftover silicone. when I installed the new one for the tank I was working on, I put a LARGE bead on the top rim on the glass and when I pressed the new rim in place it filled in the gaps around the sides. take your finger and make a nice smooth seal around the inside and let it cure 24-48 hours before water testing it.

Thanks pickupman.... Already done it. I put a bead on the inside of the rim where the glass touches the rim, put the rim on and then put weught on it to make sure it sealed. I scrapped all the old silicone off and then cleaned the glass with alcohol before installing new rim. sealed up real nice.......
