Let me share with you all before I explode, the luck (or lack of) I have had the past 2 weeks. My father-in-law past away, 3 days later my wife's uncle has a stroke and then passes away, 4 days after that my wife has a car vs. semi wreck that should have killed anybody (thank the Lord in Heavan she is fine just really sore), and now the wife comes home from chyrch to find my new 75gal reef tank had no water in it. It was fine this morning when I left for work. Keep your eyes open in the sales section because right now i just want to give up, wrap myself in bubble wrap, and crawl in a hole where no one can find me.

dang bro, i am sorry to hear all of that. i wish i had better cheer up advice. sometimes things happen for a reason, just be thankful and feel blessed your wife is ok, and you still have your life ahead of you. you can always re start a tank. ya know.

Wow...you HAVE had a rough two weeks. I'm sorry for your losses; thankful your wife is OK. Did water go all over your floor? Just breathe my friend.

Yes the hardwood floor is soaked and to top it off I'm trying to sell the house. The good news is my neighbor has a salt tank as well and he came to the rescue. He said most of the stuff looks like it will make it. We have been setting up another tank for him so he has room for my stuff for now. If my wife gets her way (she usually does) I wont be allowed to even have a 1 gal gold fish bowl in the house.......

Good news so far...... My buddy said everything appeared to still be alive. He said there was only about 1/2 water on top the sand and he got everything in the sump in time. He than ran back home and got more buckets and took them to his place and put it in his 55... I'm still not sure I am going to put another tank in or not.....

wow, so sorry for what happened. How did the tank break? usually it will start leaking first, but your's just burst?

No it did not bust. I am at work and had to go by what my wife was screaming at me....... I have not been able to go home yet and investigate the cause of the leak yet but I suspect a leak at the bottom of the tank. I'll let ya'll know when I find out. Thank God for good friends and neighbors who have the same interests. My buddy was able to save all the live stock so far and he is going to keep everything for me untill I get the tank fixed or replaced. I'm going on vacation next week and he is going to keep everything for me.. Thanks Brett, your a true friend in deed!!!!

Wow, what a crazy series of events you have gone through. But if you look at it from the positive side, you can start all over with livestock that you already have, rather than listening to a LFS sales rep nag in your ear to buy this and that!

sorry to hear about all the passings:(
keep your head up!

thats awesome about the neighbor though! you never know some time down the road you may see this is a reallllly good thing!

So sorry to hear of your losses. We know how difficult it can be, but try to keep your chin up and find the positive: your wife is safe and your friend was able to step in and save your livestock.

We suffered a catastrophic tank failure (bottom seal rupture) with our first 300g tank in 2010. The tank was nearly drained within a 2 hour timeframe. To say it was a nightmare is an understatement and there were times we thought about throwing in the towel. What kept us going was the overwhelming support and help we received from friends in our local reef club (they were truly amazing), fellow hobbyists online from all over, and of course our family. We decided to turn the disaster into an opportunity to start fresh, making changes and improvements to our entire system design to reduce failure risks, make maintenance easier and give our livestock a home they could thrive in for a very long time.

You/your wife will want to call your insurance company ASAP and get Servpro (or like company) to come in and start the water removal process quickly to minimize the damage to your flooring/subflooring.
