Talk me into getting a new tank

I currently have a 32 biocube with a few upgrades. It has been up for nearly a year with the only hick up being a kitten turning the tank off one night. I have been humoring the idea of doing a 65 gallon tank that would be SPS dominated. I would love to take what I have learned from the biocube and put it into a larger set up. My wife really likes the fancy sticks and other corals and would like to get quite a few more of them. The only issues would be needing to reinforce the floor since my house was built in 1900. Another issue would be that I may be moving in a little over 2 years. I am going to school to become a history teacher and by then I would be done with school and looking for a school district. The tank may need to move over three hours, or I could get a job nearby and have to move less than 30 mins away or not at all for a few. Would it be worth it to start a tank with that time window?

Life is very short. As a retired teacher, I can tell you that your career will dominate your life. And it will go by so fast you won't believe me. Enjoy the moment as well and the future. Best of luck on your new career.

It is not mentioned above, so not to assume anything with your current build. Could you start converting/adding SPS to the existing build, getting a feel for parameters and stability necessary with SPS now? And once in your new career and location, build out the new tank? Maybe start gathering items over time and when things are ideal, boom, drop the new SPS tank build!

I have 2 pieces of SPS in the tank right now, a frag of burning banana and a frag of sunburst monti. While as of today I have only have had them for a week, seeing the monti clearly grow to nearly the edge of the plug in that short of time has made me want to do an SPS tank. On top of my wife wanting me to get acros because they are her favorite to see. I have begun the task of hand dosing calc, alk, and mag to maintain stable parameters but my next build would have an auto dosser in mind.

Get an auto doser now. (Appetite stimulus) while you figure out how hard or needed the floor job will be.

Then get her a tank

I’m in school right now I don’t have much time left till I get my bachelors. I got the biggest tank that I could fit down the stairs in the basement. My stairs is like an L so it’s hard to get large tanks down there. I got a 6ft 125 gal tank. I wish I could have larger. But I have a 125, 25G and a 55 gal tank. If I could get a 350 or even larger down my stairs I so would. I have a few more years left and I live in Michigan. I kinda wanna live in Colorado but not sure. I’d say go for it. You’ll have so much fun. I don’t think it will be that hard to move a 65 gal tank
