I am new to the full saltwater world. Granted I have been enjoying the setup process. I have been setting up a 110 gal reef fish tank. I have a 4 stage custom sump setup. I have an Apex system running on this setup with an ATK as well. I know this can do much much more then what I am currently using it for. Two Radeon pro xr30
Stage 1 = Macroalgae 10% of my water vol.
Stage 2 = Skimmer, temp probe
Stage 3 = marine pure 2 8x8 1 lb of sphears , 2 300w heaters
stage 4 = returne pump / manifold pump.
Sump is about 80 Gal of water.

Manifold pump if currently going to GFO and carbon reactors.
This is what I am stuck on. I plan on sending in ICP-OES Triton tests 3 or 4 times a year. Needed to verify I am testing tank properly on my own. I need to start adding Alk & Cal dosing. I love the idea of 0 water change with the Triton system. I am not sold on buying their chemicals. I am thinking of adding a Calcium reactor (Cal Rx). I like the idea of tune it in let it go. When you add a 2nd PH probe to the system.

The main question with this kinda setup with a Cal Rx can you achieve the close to 0 water change system? Is there something large that I have overlooked as well. I don't claim to be smart just trying to avoid wasting money on a stupid idea. Thank you for your Thoughts on this.

The answer to your main question is yes. With a Cal reactor WC are not absolutely necessary. However I suggest you continue to do your research before doing anything like that. WC are the best way to correct problems in a system and really have no equal. Going no water change is really for persons who fully understand what, why, and how everything about water changes and compensation for not doing any. Good luck

TY I don't think I will get to close to 0 WC anytime soon. my skimmer likes to do auto WC about 1 a week right now. Just looking to make sure I'm going in the right direction.

What’s wrong with the skimmer? Overflowing?

Its a used reef octo 200 classic. I had to put a new pump on it used a varios s6. My best guess right now is the reactor chamber must be having a hard time getting a new skim coating on the inside. Been running for about 2mo now. Was every day it was giving problems. Now its down to once a week. Only at night now will it overflow. Spills out 3 to 8 gal of water. I think it just needs more time. Running the pump on power setting 1.

What is the water level of the skimmer (water level inside the skimmer)and the water around the skimmer (how far does it sit in the sump water)? What is the body size? The Varios-6 is used for bigger skimmers. With the power on the pump so low does it produce a lot of bubbles, water in skimmer white? It should not be overflowing, I think there is a problem with how you have it set up. If it’s not sucking in a lot of air that will cause it to pump in more water into the skimmer, that causes overflowing.

Sorry work this week was fun.

Skimmer is in 12 3/4in water both inside and outside the skimmer body. I put a shelf in the sump that keeps the skimmer up. About another 10in of water under it. The skimmer body and collection cup are 8in diameter.

Skimmer dose have good bubbles 80% of the time.
