Tamron or Sigma

I have a 24" deep SPS tank and am starting up a 16" deep frag tank. In the SPS tank corals are at all levels. I'm trying to decide between the Tamron 90 mm or the Sigma 105 mm macro lens for my Nikon D5600. This will be my first go at taking good coral shots. Is there a reason to go with one over the other? I'll probably get a good 40 mm as well down the road but wanted to start here.

I always liked sigmas autofocus better.

But Honestly use 2 lens most often for my tanks (when i actually decide to not use my phone ). A 16-80 zoom and standard 50mm prime. Occasionally i pull out a 135mm prime lens.

Compare chromatic aberration, and image sharpness.

I have that sigma lens and like it a lot. I don't know anything about Tamron lenses.

Toss a coin. Both have great optics. with Macro work you really never use AF anyway. It probably will come down to do you want that little bit of extra 15mm of reach. I owned that Sigma 105 OS years ago when i shot canon. was a great lens. I wouldnt pass up the tamron either. So you cannot make a bad choice with really any macro lens.

I would say between the two of them is a toss up, it doesn't sound like you have a large enough tank to need the extra 15mm. So if those are the two you're between I would say whatever you can get in a better condition for the best price.

Personally I ended up grabbing the tamron for my D3400 and have been very happy with it (especially for $140!)

You can use it for other shots as well
