I have had a very small Atlantic blue tang in a QT for two weeks. He has seemed fine since I got him except for the past few days. He is now darting around the tank. He seems to be breathing normal and is still eating and the water parameters seems fine. Yet he swims with real quick jerky motions.

Any ideas?

Sounds like he's stressed out. My hippo tang used to to that when it was starting to get too big for my old tank.

Are you treating for anything? That jerky motion could be a sign of Ich also. Any scratching against rocks or anything of that nature?

Ich comes from Ich. Stress may weaken the immune system but does not cause Ich. QT is a great place to detect stuff like this. Unless the QT is really small it will be fine.

I agree, and meant that, Stress will invite many problems

He is very small, only an inch and seemed fine the first week
And the tank is 29 gallons with a big piece of pvc for hiding

When u say "jerky motions" does it appear he is trying to rub, or scratch up against something? Or is this more of a pacing problem?

Is he the only fish currently in the QT? Does he appear to have nipped fins from another fish bothering him? It may just be spooked by you getting too close to the tank. I would watch the tank from a distance, (preferably with minimal ambient lighting so that he can't see you) to see if his behavior continues. IME, many wild caught fish are fairly skiddish when they are first added to our tanks until they learn that a person near the tank often means feeding time.

He is the only fish in the tank, he is not trying to rub up against anything it's more like darting around

where when we asked before we never got told unless he changed it back in another post... sorry if i missed it...

Try dosing a little Prozac....that should calm him down. Seriously though, I would make sure the tank is in a low traffic area with out too much light, PVC pipes work great for hiding places in quarantine tanks :)
