I have a 200ish gallon tank. 65”x30” I currently have three tangs: blue eye kole, sailfin, purple. My friend is downgrading to a smaller tank and asked me if I’d like his powder blue. He’s had it for two years and it’s fat and happy. How does everyone feel about that addition based on the tangs listed as well as tank size...thanks in advance!

It’s hit or miss. Really depends on size and aggression of current tangs. Usually a new tang gets bullied by the others if smaller or even bigger. In a 200, with lots of space, it should be ok. I’ve found that healthy, well-fed tangs acclimate well and hold their own

The PB is super healthy and I think a little bit larger than the existing fish. I’m thinking it’ll be fine but need some others, smarter than me lol, to charm in. Thanks!

Introduce under low light to keep it comfortable and others at bay
ACCLIMATE IT VERY WELL (clean bucket adding a cup of tank water to bucket every 15 minutes 8 times)
Use a large cup- not net to trap and transfer tang. Test bucket water to assure salinity is equal or close to tank readings
A Free PBT- that’s what I call a friend !!

Worked out great. The powder blue was super healthy and is now the boss! Never has an issue.

Its so great when things worked out

I just added a bluespot bristletooth with ny 10yr blue yellow belly regal and 4 year scopas

knock on wood everything working out and alls well

It’s funny, I guess I would have thought the Kole and Purple would have issue with each other?

Ctenochaetus and Zebrasoma tangs very rarely clash, I’ve found Ctenochaetus usually go under the radar for many tangs as they more mind their business and ignore everyone else, not really caring about being the leader of the tank with other species of tang in there.

I would agree with this as well. I added a Whitetail Kole Tang to my established group of fish including a Gem, Yellow and Blonde Naso. Only fish that really picked on him was the Convict Damsel he's the jerk of the group. And would you know it he's been in the tank 11 years.
