Hey everyone. My buddie has a tank and she noticed that her Indian black trigger was covered in white spots this am but not last night. She also sent me a pic and said that her yellow tang looks like it has little black dots all over it. Black ich possibly. The only other things in the tank are the tang the trigger, blue bird wrasse and a red emperor snapper

Both of the fish are eating really well.

Trigger looks to me to be Velvet. I can’t see much on tang. Either way, looks like all fish in tank are going to need quick attention. Does she have a QT or hospital tank? Does she have copper or CP for treatment purposes? I’d say wait for some more opinions but Velvet kills very quickly. Has she added something to tank recently?

The tank was recently moved but no fish added. All that’s in the tank is the fish and some live rock. There is no hospital tank so would she be safe to dose cp in the dt?

The tank looks like it's a brand new setup. How long has this tank cycled? And all the fish will need to be treated with a copper safe or cupramine.

The tank has been running for over a year and a half. It was recently purchased off of someone else. And moved the newest fish to be added was 5 months ago

No. The problem with that the sand and rocks will absorb most of the copper out of the water

Will the wrasse be safe in cuppramine. Should I do wanyhtinf else with the trigger if he has velvet? Freshwater dip I thought I read?

I moved this to the fish disease forum.

This is definitely velvet. You’ll want to act quickly, remove all fish and treat them in a quarantine with copper. Make sure to leave the display tank fishless for 76 days to starve out the parasite.

Copper power or coppersafe would be my suggestion.

You’ll want to act quickly, velvet can kill in hours.

Here’s the entire sticky:

Wrasse are sensitive to all coppers, but I find them to be slightly less sensitive to chelated copper such as copper power or coppersafe. Typically I would say increase copper over 5-7 days to ease the wrasse in but with velvet you’ll want therapeutic dose increased over 2-3 hours gradually or risk losing the fish.

Would it be okay to treat the dt? The only qt she has is an old fuge. Like I said the only thing in there is LR and LS

That’s what has me confused. It we have recently moved the rock around and the tank is a lil cloudy but it wouldn’t be sedement that had just stuck on him would it? Like I said they act all great.

It can be just sand. When the tank was moved or rearranged the trigger might have produced extra slim coat and sand just stuck to it.
