Hi I was wondering whether I could put a blue hippo tang with my blue throat trigger. The tank is a 120g, 5 foot long mixed reef. Would a blue hippo be too much.

Generally, yes. In a few years the hippo will likely outgrow the 120G. The blue throat will take longer to require more space as they're slower growers.

Notwithstanding space, the two are often good candidates for the same tank.

I have 3 tangs with a blue throat. The tangs, who were added after the trigger. sometimes gang up on the trigger and chase it around a little, but that’s it. I think you will be fine.

The blue throat is really a shy fish , especially when you first add it to a tank. So I would add it first. But yes my hippo and my blue throat get along fine. My tank is 265 gallons though
I personally don’t like adding fish to a tank knowing it will just outgrow the tank. So many better choices if you like tangs that fit better in a 120
But totally up to you on that one
Also make sure you have lots of rock fir the hippo. They are very timid fish as well especially when little and mine is always hiding between a rock.
