Tang discussion-not going to make a bad decision

Was in my lfs today-who i do trust


My tank is 120g mixed reef, 48x24x24

Minimal fish stock

Clown
Bar goby
Yellow coris wrasse
Coral beauty
Scopas tang
Blue yellow belly regal tang

Was thinking about adding a blue throat trigger, my lfs as we were talking about fish suggested adding a naso tang...

So that would be the naso, regal and scopas in my 120g


Wouldn’t add any more fish

From more experienced and knowledgeable hobbyist-asking for trouble with that addition?

System has been running probably 7 years-maybe 8

IMO tank is too small/short for a Naso. They get BIG and need a long tank to be happy and healthy!

Well speaking from a purely subjective view, a Naso to pretty much everyone would be a hard no for a tank that size. Volume wise you're a little shy and length wise it's just not enough. A Naso can grow to a foot long and even longer. It could be on a lazy Sunday stroll and make it to the other side of your tank in a second. Not trying to put you down or anything but atleast IMO (and not from personal experience but you'll get a lot of that soon) they really do need a 6-8 foot tank and 6 foot is really pushing it

There are plenty of other beautiful additions you could be scoping out that will be much better for your tank long term.

I would not go with any of those three. They need room to swim lengthwise at least 6 ft... IMO

Generally good advice above.

I would tell you 8' length minimum for any Naso species. Some, like unicorns and vlamingii, need even bigger than an 8' 240.
