If I feed my two tangs two veggie sheets a day, my algae starts to grow and all the food I provide is devoured. But if I limit it to one sheet, they start butting their heads against the food clips, but my rockwork, etc gets clean. They are healthy, but I do worry that over time, not feeding enough will have an affect on them. My grandmother's solution to everything was feed everyone more -- but I don't think an Iowa farm wife solution is the best idea here.

You could switch it up a little and give the full feed on a rotating schedule with a leaner day every so often...or keep them well fed and grab some inverts to help with rock cleaning. I've never been able to depend on my tangs to keep nuisance algae reined in.

I have a bunch of snails and crabs for my CUC -- but they only do so much. I have the tangs because I like them, but I soon discovered that they can be useful. The really do clean up the tank well. I just don't want them to starve. A rotating schedule sounds good. Thanks. :)

Tangs always act like they’re starving. I feed my tang gang one 8x8 sheet of nori per day and it lasts less than a minute. I could offer a second one and it’d be devoured with equal alacrity. I suspect you know the answer .... ‘force’ them to eat the naturally occurring algae on the rocks.

Tough love. Yep.

Sounds like my Aunt - would always give me more, and more, and more. And when I was finished, there would be more...

My Lt. Tang would eat a sheet a day alone. I said ok, let me try my Aunt's method. Yup, Lt. Tang would eat two sheets, and three. Grew from 2 - 3" to 8" in probably 7 months. So I slowed down back to 1 sheet a day and it was just as happy.

Tangs are pigs. If you cut them back for a while I’m sure they’ll get used to it. It’s not the popular choice for some but, i would feed them nls thera a pellets, which they devoured and minimized excess nutrients from getting in the water
