I expect the answer is no, but are there any tangs suitable for a 50g tank? Don't bother telling me if there's a rabbitfish; I don't want things in my tank that could hurt me (with the exception of some Rasta zoas...) but do say if you don't think there is one.

Thanks!

I would say no but worse case of case is too get something a very slow grower and get it as a baby. Maybe a kole eye if you can get your hand on it.

Do you think the flame angel my husband wants would do okay?

You could get away with doing a Kole Tang. If you get it when it's young, it may never stress out, but, there's a possibility years down the line, it'll become too big for the tank and get stressed. My uncle had a Powder Blue (Much larger tang) in his 65g for 4 years before it began showing signs of stress - which at that time he gave it a bigger home.

Flame angel may not be reef safe, would recommend a slightly bigger tank though I think again, you can house the angel successfully in the 50.

Personally I'd skip the tang in a 50 gallon unless you stick to juvies and rehoming. Maybe your LFS is willing to let you trade them out when they get too large. I personally don't like to rehome my fish. I get attached. :)

Yes you can put a Pigmy Angel in that size tank. Sounds like you know a Tang is not really a good choice, min tank size per Liveaquaria is 70 gallons.

Okay, thanks for the input. :)
Given how much my hubby wants the Flame I think I'll skip the tang...especially since I want a labout's fairy wrasse. Probably too many fish right on the edge of too big to get a tang. I was hoping there might be a really small one but there doesn't appear to be.

If you do a tang, stay with bristletooths..... They will be smaller for longer :)

Okey dokey. I'm thinking the angel would be a major algae eater too, no? Honestly I really don't have an algae issue to begin with...so still a bad idea, I would guess?

This is an FTS of what its home would be.

Yea a flame angel would be a lot better but if you want to some place sell 1 inch yellow or hippo tang.

Thanks, but hippos are not an option. Too boisterous and they get too big too fast.
