I’m setting up a 278 gallon saltwater pond and am looking to put a group of tanks in there. Either a group of yellows, a group of blacks, or a group of mixed acanturus such as powder brown, powder blue, achilles, white cheek, royal/hippo blue. will Any of thes work?

@vetteguy53081 has 25 tangs, great person to ask. He has a school of yellows if Im not mistaken. Sounds like a cool set up, never seen a saltwater pond before!

Blacks you will rarely see , yellows are great but a group will cost you $3000-$5000 based on 8-10 yellows and best is mixed group stocked in order of aggression and size potential.

Forgot to mention I already have a pair of morish idols I’ve had for 2 years so they need to be compatible with morish idols.

Saltwater pond is a different perspective on the fish. Black tangs are going to be pretty boring. You are looking for fish that stand out from when viewing from above.

Yellows are a great option, if you can get them, because you can see and enjoy them from any angle. Purple can be stunning. I keep purples in my outdoor frag tanks, now granted they are sun-lit but the purple off the back of the purple rather than from the side with the right lighting (whites not blues) is mind blowingly beautiful. Powder blues are going to stand out. Hippos are going to stand out. The other one which is stunning from above are the Dussemeri - Gets really big - so you need to find a home for it.

Also if you are running lots of white light - the Gem tangs are gorgeous from above as well.

Depending how the pond is laid out and where you are in relation to it (viewing position) a Vlamingi is like puppy dog. These fish will happily come up to the surface to meet you. They will eat anything out of your hand. They like to be pet. You have this big fish which you will eventually be able to hold in your hand.

I would hope that you have some type of netting over the pond as we have birds that would love a opportunity to dive in for a snack not to mention I would think you might need a chiller with the temps we have right now . It sounds cool to have a pond filled with saltwater fish

I know a place that currently has a few black tangs wondering they would be fine in a school, also could I do a school of purple tangs.

I should have stated the pond is indoors and I will be running either 3 or 4 hydra 64s and 2 ai blades and it has glass viewing windows so I can see from the side.

That changes everything. I assumed outdoors.
