I have a 50 gallon and wanted to add a tang if possible. I've seen so many videos and stories of people keeping them in around this size tank succesfully for years. I'm talking about the yellows and koles mostly but also see them about the powder blues. I will be 100% be upgrading to 130+ in my new house. Which won't be longer then a year. What do you think?

Even for a smaller species 50g is on the small side. Just wait to get them in the 130.

If you want them for algae control look into starry or algae blennies.

If for their color yelloow coris wrasses are just as brightly yellow as yellow tangs, and there are numerous blue fish appropriate for that sized tank.

Adding a tang in that size is possible but it really is up to you. A small yellow tang is what I would do but not anything else.

Thanks all for the replies. ^^ as what he said about a yellow working. My lfs has had a yellow in a 29 gallon bio cube for 3 years so far and is still going. If that works wouldn't a 1 inch one work in mine for less then a year? My lfs gets tangs in large sizes and incredibly small ones like half an inch

Just because the fish is in a 29 gallon fish tank doesn't mean it is healthy. Tangs need space to swim regardless of size. If they don't have it they will be stressed which weakens them making them more prone to disease. It kind of shows the people who run that store have no regard for the fish they sell and I certainly wouldn't take any advise they give you as truth.

i understand that most fish stores are like that but the reason I drive over an hour to go there rather then diving 10 minutes to a store down the street is because they have the healthiest fish and have always givin me advice that helped my tank.

Ive done it before but 9/10 people that say they're upgrading don't or it takes 5-10x longer than they think.

I have a 1.5-2" purple tang, 2" chevron, and 1.5" carribean blue tang but they'll be going in a 180. They would be fine for a year maybe but again I know human nature and what "one year" is. I often upgrade sooner than I anticipate rather than later. For me it will be two 10' wall tanks in my new house to replace my two 180 and 125.

So I know it will be a year at longest beacause the tank will be set up before we move in it's just how long it's gonna take for us to move out and there's only a certain amount of time that we have to stay. So would this be fine. I have my rocks opens so there's the most swimming room possible?

It's your decision.

I they have what I like I will buy it at a good local fish store. There is one in my area that is really good, I won't buy at just any local fish store. I like to support the good local businesses when I can.

I have bought many fish on line as well. I have very good luck with divers den at live aquaria.

Ok I've always heard of live aquaria to be good.

Would u reccomend buying corals from them

If you have good LFS in your area, support them. Where I am at there are a number of quality shops. Getting to see the fish or coral in person is important to me. But not all areas have good LFS and there are a number of good online retailers as well.
