Hello R2R,
I’m looking for some info on a tang I recently added to the tank after a QT.
It was sold as a “Lieutenant” which I didn’t believe upon buying it. It is hard to tell but it is very white in color with yellow almost blonde fins.it is a bristletooth type tang. And at first you might say Tomini tang but the fins a very rounded unlike a tomini and I’ve owned one before and this doesn’t have the marking on the body like one.

Any help would be great appreciated.

Love seeing these kinds of post about different tangs.
im not sure if there is color markings above the gill plate so assuming there isn’t I would guess Atlantic blue tang going from juvie to adult. But I wouldn’t bet on it…..maybe a cheap coral but knowing I might lose;)

I don’t know about that white tail tho, definitely makes me think it could be something else

Thank you for the info!
Regardless it’s beautiful, brave …. For a tang and has a great appetite. I’m very happy with it just like to have a better understanding for the things in my tank.

Yes the tail is white as white gets. With a slash of white in the underside fin.

Image search shows two dif looking ones under the same name though. Ones kind of round and blue, and one looks just like yours.
Ill look it up now.

It has a slight dark spot hard to tell though. What are your thoughts?
Tricky bugger because I see the shadowing but not noticeable enough for me to call it a lieutenant. I’ve never raised one so hopefully someone that has chimes in.

Yea I saw that and some have the yellowing on the side fins as well

I agree with that, also the fish has a very bright almost luminescent blue on the outer most edge of the dorsal fin.

Yea I can see that, very pretty. Also seen on the lieutenant so I can see why the Lfs sold him as one.
