Recently was able to capture a tang I received about 4 months ago. It was purchased as a Squaretail bristletooth tang juvenile from Divers Den.i know the fish are yellow when they're young and change color as they age. I just wanted to confirm that this is a Squaretail because I'm not seeing the yellow eyes and dot pattern fully come through. The liveaquaria photo isn't my fish but that photo looks exactly like one I had when I made the initial purchase. The fish received is this brown guy I have now. If this is the correct fish any idea on how long it take for it to make those color transitions?

Blue eye bristletooth Ctenochaetus truncatus
You’ve mentioned two different species of Ctenochaetus. The blue eye is Ctenochaetus binotatus whilst the Ctenochaetus trunctatus is the square tail.

I disagree with it being a Trunctatus as C. trunctatus doesn’t have stripes and is instead spotted (It’s common name over here is the Silver Spot Bristletooth Tang).

Do you have any better photos?

The stripes are throwing me off too, here's another picture. I might be able to get another after work.

I want to say C. binotatus however the eye is throwing me off.
Here’s my Binotatus, he’s around 3 years old in captivity. He has the markings however the eye is completely blue.

The Caribbean Blue Tang is round in shape, the photo of the yellow juvenile Ctenochaetus is from LADD and is correct.

Its very [possible. At first I thought it was juvenile Ctenochaetus but the white mouth is what threw me off

Beautiful tang you have there, like you said everything looks spot on for C. binotatus minus the eye. Did it have the blue eyes when you first got him? I guess if mine start showing those two spots on the dorsal and anal fins I may know for sure.

Mine did come with a blue eye but he was about an inch and a half when I got him.
