I picked this guy up as a Fowleri Tang from Live Aquaria about a year ago but it doesn't look like any that I've seen. I thought that it might color up as it got bigger. Hard to get a good pick of the face but it has white ring around it's mouth. Thanks in advance.

It looks a lot like a Fowleri, but it doesn’t have the white band by the tail and the yellow on the dorsal fin. It looks like it could be a juvenile that is starting to turn from a solid sort of dark yellow to black/dark blue, but that hasn’t developed the white band yet. I could be completely wrong, I’ve never kept one and haven’t seen one in person in many years. Gorgeous fish, though.

Thanks. I finally found this old pic. I forgot that it had some strange veins in the tail when I bought it. The tail colors looked different then as well. The orange on the dorsal fin is very faint and it doesn't have color behind the gills. Very cool fish either way.

It was the size of my Tomini tang when I put it in. Definitely grows faster than the other tangs as It's 5-6in now. Expecting another foot. Can't wait to see all of the fish when they're grown.

Rounded head, grey lips, dark-edged white tail spine, tail lunate with a black-edged white rear margin, often displays a white band on inner tail, and a yellow or white streak up the middle of the pectoral fin.

That's it! That's the white ring around the mouth and chin that I noticed was different. That's exactly the same.
