Tang major excavations

My Tang has decided to move some 3" of sand/gravel to get to the bottom of the tank then kept digging to make a passage underneath the rock, now he goes there forward backwards and sometimes just lies on the bottom, is there any reasoning for this

They do that bc they are territorial.

Blue tangs are the goofiest fish.

Don't be too concerned until they start forming a cult inside your tank

Tangs like to make their homes the way they like it. I had a blue tang years ago like yours. Raised him from small to big over years. He became strong enough to not only push sand away but also move a rather round rock by using his tail to flip it. I tested to see if this was really a repeated intention versus just being spontaneous by moving some sand back as well as moving the rock back. After some time passed, he moved all of them again.

Those tangs have a knack for fitting in the smallest spots and making weird homes. Goofy fish

Well I'm glad all the rock is on the glass bottom and that they are all bonded together, this guy is proving to be quite interesting

Maybe it’s just a behavioral change as it’s growing up? My white tail bristletooth tang does this deep inside my rockwork to make its home.

Claiming real estate in the tank. My purple and lieutenant tang does this also

Took my purple tang 4 years to begin this behavior. Ive added at least 6 new tangs and this makes sense

Blue tangs are goofy little dudes. Probably the dumbest fish in the hobby, but there's never an end to their antics.
