Tang On Coral Violence ???

I only have 11 pieces of coral in my DT so far since I have been QTing them for 76 days. The first 10 pieces are all doing good and the fish were a bit interested in them when they first went in, but went back to business as usual very quickly. Most of the coral are Torches, hammers and Acans, but I have two Trumpet Coral, (or Candy Cane Coral) and one was too small to try and glue anywhere so I put it on the bottom in a small 3 inch square of egg-crate figuring I would wait until it grew bigger to try and glue it. It was pretty close to the hole that my Blue Hippo has claimed as its home and it did take notice to the coral, but I didn't think too much of it.

This morning I saw my Hippo tail slapping the Trumpet Coral, but was on my way out so I figured I'd move it when I got back. I just got back and the coral is no where to be found and the egg-crate is about a foot away from where I placed it. I still cannot find the coral, but figured I'd post to see if anyone else has experienced coral aggression from a Tang? I am a bit concerned because I had planned on placing a few more expensive coral in the same area soon and do not want them damaged by my Hippo...

Yep tangs will slap frags around if they don't like them in their spot.

I’ve caught my hippo moving frags away from its sleeping spot. I had to relocate a chalice coral because of that, which was kind of annoying. Now, the hippo picks up the same crab and tosses it around the tank every day, which is rather funny to watch.

That's crazy! Why have I never heard anything about this before?

I guess I was so worried about Tang on Tang violence that I missed the Tang On Coral Violence. I guess I will have to make sure and avoid placing coral too close to my Hippos home form now on. My Purple and Achilles Tangs don't seem to mind though, as my Torches are right next to their homes and my Powder Blue doesn't seem to mind the Acan next to his home. Hopefully it stays that way because I have some pretty expensive corals going in next.

I just removed a large Yellow Tang from my frag system because he nipped at a chalice and a favia frag. The chalice had just been purchased online by somebody the night before.

So why are Tangs labeled as "Reef Safe"???

I went through a lot of effort to make sure I had "Reef Safe" fish and had to time the QT of all my Tangs so I added them together and then had to separate my Purple and Achilles for a while and now I find this out. This is horrible!!! All my Tangs are now showing aggression against my Torches. They are swimming around them with their fins flared up and hitting them with their tails. I paid a lot of money for these fish, but paid a lot more for some of my coral and now I potentially have to decide which to keep. This really sucks!!! :mad:

What good is labeling fish if the label doesn't apply? "Reef Safe" should mean that hey are safe to be in a tank with coral and now I am finding out that is not true...:mad:
