Tang Only Tank Stocking

Setting up a 900g tank for a client and they want to stock it with only tangs. Said they'd like to have multiple rare species. Any suggestions?

NYAquatic and TSM corals typically get very rare ones. Check their websites.

What’s their budget? I’m guessing pretty large if they have a 900G tank. There’s a gem tang that’s up there

Well, that would be a fun project. What are the tank's dimensions?

Gems and blacks are prized.
I don't ever see A. polyzona.
There are hybrids of some of the Acanthurus.
It would be awesome to keep some of the large tangs, like the unicorns, N. vlamingii, and the bigger sailfins.

I wouldn't limit myself to just tangs though. Full-size angels, butterflies, volitan lion for example.

Whatever you end up going I’d definitely put all of the zebrasoma types in at the same time, and then all of the acanthurus types in together. I’ve seen tanks with groups of achillies that looks pretty amazing. Group of gems would be nice as well. Fowleri tangs looks pretty amazing as adults. I like the polyzona tangs but even if budget is no object I don’t really think they are much more impressive looking than cheap convict tangs.

There really aren’t any super rare tangs that I know of anymore. Gems, blacks, and polyzona used to be tough to find, but now all three are relatively easy to get if you’ve got the $$ to spend.

There’s the oddball stuff like white yellow tangs and some of the aberrant scopas tangs but I’m not really a fan of either.

I’ll admit though. This one is pretty incredible.

One of the least common accessible species that you don't see everyday is acanthurus guttatus.

I bought one of those recently. I was mainly looking for more acanthurus tangs to keep aggression down. Seemed to be a pretty calm tang. I ended up not really liking the looks of it all that much though. Colors kind of faded out the bigger it got. I ended up selling it.
