My LFS has a Cuvier's Bluelined Surgeon and I wondering about getting him, didnt have a chance to take any good pictures of him though. I do have a few questions about him and if he would go in my current tank...

I have a 120 gal with a 30 gal sump current stocking is as follows:
Pair of Pajamas Cardinals
Pair of Mocha Clownfish
Christmas Wrasse and Fairy Wrasse
Starry Blenny
Engineer Goby
2 TIger Pistol with a Hatchet Goby and Pink Diamond Goby
Foxface
Fire Shrimp
Pair of Skunk Cleaners
Sand Shifting Bearded Goby

My tank is going on 4 months old...Im up for suggestions on this Surgeon

That's a bigger tang that's likely going to be a bit feisty as an adult. If it's the only tang you want, then go for it! 120 Gallons should be enough room for it to grow into. My only initial concern was that you already have a lot of fish, but most of them are pretty small so it shouldn't be too big of an issue in terms of bio load.

I think my biggest fish are my Christmas Wrasse or the Foxface. Currently, water parameters are steady, with my Nitrates leveled at 5ppm

It should be fine then, just make sure the tang is in healthy condition at the LFS and quarantine if you can. Also ask them to feed it a little, you want to make sure it will eat for you when you get it home.

Those aren't a common find-- they're also not the hardiest fish. They can grow to nearly a foot, about 8" in the hobby and will outgrow your tank relatively quickly.

Very prone to disease, so if you decide to try and upgrade to a larger tank you'll need to have a completely ich free tank with all inhabitants being treated with copper or CP for a full 30 days and the tank ran fallow-- and all new fish run through the same protocol. Otherwise, it will slowly (or quickly) succumb in an "ich management" tank.

Thank you for the information, Im trying to find my "show" fish for my tank and thought this might be something but I wont have the space nor money for a bigger tank

I would search for another, IMO. What about a convict tang? I think they're unsung heroes of the tang world, quite underrated -- although they too can be pretty disease prone as they are in the same acanthurus genus.

A chevron is a handsome addition although they can get large. I also find Kole tangs to be quite underrated.

Another suggestion if you pass on the nigroris would be a pyroferus. I love mimic tangs and they tend to be a bit hardier and less prone to diseases unlike most other Acanthurus tangs.

Maybe I spoke to soon on giving you the go ahead on the nigroris. Being a somewhat rare tang I would jump all over the opportunity but if your not very experienced with tangs you may want to pass. They tend to be a bit shy at first but once established it would most likely be the king of your tank. By any chance did you find it in the Phoenix area LOL!
