hello all.
I have a quick question for all the tang experts here. I have a tang that picked up ich during shipping. I treated it with copper and now all of the ich is gone. It has been in copper for about 3-4 days and the ich is not noticeable. Is this fish good to put in my display now? I know the lifecycle of ich is 30 days, but my DT is probably not ich free anyway. The fish has been treated for internal parasites and looks healthy. This is my last fish, so does it really matter if I do a full copper treatment on him, since theoretical there shouldn't be any stressors in the system as he will be the dominant fish?

just a note, the fish store he was shipped from kept this fish in copper as well, so he has had a full 3 weeks of treatment already . not sure if that makes a difference or not

I don't trust other stores with ich treatment. If he was already treated for 3 weeks at the store they obviously didn't do it right since he still came in with ich.

Do a full treatment. Even if you believe there might be ich in your dt it's best not to introduce it to the tank. Also I would work on getting ich out of the dt

Just because symptoms aren't visible doesn't mean it doesn't have it

Totally agree with above, treat it as if it still has Ick, because it probably does and QT it.

I think you should treat for 14 days at least then transfer to a sterile tank for another 2weeks. Problem is if he has already been in copper his immune system is compromised and you will need to treat with some antibiotics also

To add you may want to look up @HotRocks post on treatment for ich it is very detailed and will give your new fish the best chance.

The fish needs to remain in copper at the therapeutic level for 10-14 days to be ich free.

Trophonts can remain attached for around 7days so 4 would not be long enough to be sure they are gone.

If your DT is not ich free it may not matter either way.

true, I dont trust stores either, but they did tell me they keep it at low doses, so not enough to kill ich. not sure if DT has ich as ive never seen it present in there, but I have added fish that I had to immediate remove from a QT in order to save them. Only way I know of to get ich out of DT is to go fallow, which is not an option for me. Do you know another way?

Do you have inverts and corals in your tank?

I will add that none of my fish have had 14 days of therapeutic copper as I’m not a huge fan of copper. But all of them have had deworming via prazipro, and metro, focus, and kana Plex in food. So does it really matter if I do complete treatment on this guy? Lol

Not trying to argue with you guys at all, just wondering if I should even use the time and resources when it’s not eradicated in my DT?
