tang question

That said tang is currently 4” and loving life. This species rarely gets 6-7” even in the wild let alone in captivity.

The fish I have have slow growth rates that they rarely even get close to 10” the CBB is likely going to get to 6” but that’s likely to be 5 years from now. They almost never get to 8”.
The Majestic and Regal yes will likely get 5-6” but not 10” as their growth rates are that slow, if you see a 10” of either of these species it’s a wild specimen that has likely lives for 30-40 years.
same with tangs the sizes you listed above are the very biggest specimens recorded in the WILD

same with tangs your bum chum is stating the max size the tangs get they are from the wild
That’s the difference, in the wild these tangs get 10” for a PBT, 1’ for a BLT, and 6-7” for a PT. I’m stating the captive sizes you should expect - and no, the wild size should never be disregarded.

The sizes I stated were;
8-9” for a PBT
7-8” for a BLT
6-7” for a PT

These are captive sizes I’ve seen from these tangs and aren’t unheard of.

PBT, 1’ for a BLT
I’m hungry now for a really lager BLT :p;)

I had a powder blue, evil mfo... 6" full of malicious intent, paced up and down the glass like he was in the Olympics.

Not willing to but heads with a brick wall today.

An 7 " emperor angel in a 5' tank is 20x happier than a 6" pbt in a 5' tank.

That's just how these fish are.

Not true, look at all the people who own these 3 fish together. It’s just not in a 4 or 5 foot system

6 foot if you can spare the space, but I think 5 will do as long as you build the aquascape really open, like a minimalist or negative space style so they have free swimming space and can swim through the rockwork. We always talk about length, when the aquascape and free swimming space also plays a larger role. A 6 foot tank with a wall of rock in the back and only room to swim back and forth in the front doesn't exactly seem like an engaging environment. I'd rather live in a 1500sq ft house with multiple rooms and doorways than a 2000sq ft hallway. I like to let my fish swim omnidirectional and not just left and right.

Had a Powder Brown in a 4 foot before, I was an idiot, and it was only about 3 inches and it couldn’t stop pacing, withered away

Some of these tangs live in swift jets. Might explain their energy levels.
I forget the word for those currents. They can send people miles from their location if taken by them.
