Tang swiped

For those that have a tang, have you experienced its lateral spine? Does it hurt? Did you bleed? Cry? Punch your fist in the air with pain?

I handle mine by hand instead of net almost always, and have never been harmed.

This reminds me of the time I was hand-feeding my old tomini tang and my aunt (who is rather arrogant) decided she was going to show me that she could do it, too. As soon as her finger touched the water, he swam up & walloped her. Blood everywhere. And I was laaaaaaaauggghhhiiinnn lol.

Wow that's crazy. Ive never heard of a tang harming a human by aggression rather than accident

I have had a clown tang try to swipe at me every time I did algae. He broke skin a couple of times, but urchin spines hurt way more.
Funny you say that, I was moving some rock around and did not know my urchin was on the back wall hidden, and I smashed my hand up against him and got stung in 5-10 places. Really painful, especially when washing hands afterward. One sting sucks bad enough but isn't too bad. But several at a time yowww!

I was collecting baby convict tangs at keki beach north shore Oahu for me and my friends tanks.i got a big scoop in my net of about ten.three of them got stuck in the net and I had to push them out and I hit their spine and it was so spiky and it hurt.

It was when I was putting them from the net into the bucket.

The only fish I ever had attack me was a clown I had. Every time I stuck my hand in the tank it would nip at my arm. It didn't really hurt but it would scare you if you weren't prepared. Let's just say I wasn't even sad when my dad left the top off the tank and the clown jumped out.

My blenny has jumped out of two tanks.I had a ten gallon and then got a 45 gallon.I was getting all the fish out of ten gallon to put in the 45 gallon and he jumped out.The second time was when he was in the 45 gallon and he jumped out of the little space next to the filter. Its now covered with that plastic wrap stuff and he is doing good.

My desjardini would try and whack me with his tail spur any time I had my hand in the tank. He wouldn't do it right out in the open, he would wait until I had my hand close to the rocks and cave areas so that I really couldn't see him, all I would feel is a sudden burst or water against my hand. It always scared my but he never actually got me with the spur.

I just handled 9 tangs today as I moved them by hand to their first stage of TTM. One was a Sohal, biggest spine I've seen
