Tang with ich?

Yesterday around noon I treated the QT with kanaplex and metroplex to try to help him heal. I have coppersafe being delivered tomorrow. As of this evening there is no improvement. The white spots have turned into large pimple looking bumps or red patches.

Lost, He is in an all glass tank with a tiny damsel and I do not see him rubbing on anything. Initially ick remedy was used but water has been changed out since that mistake.

vetteguy, The achilles tang was used to show what the side of my tang looked like a few days ago. I dont believe his tail was ever orange.
No worries bud.

You've got folks here ready to help, but you need to do the legwork.

You've had this fish a week and a half. It's unlikely you are the initial cause of the problems. Realistically, you inherited them from whoever sold you and was likely under feeding the fish. It looks skinny, showing early stages of head and lateral line erosion, which also seem to be Red from something.

Tight and clean water parameters, an abundant, varied healthy diet, plenty of aeration, and and likely medication will be needed to bring this guy around.

Time to get goin.

Thank you. Should I proceed with coppersafe tomorrow or just continue with meds? Good news is he eats up the mysis in the emerald entree!

You can add garlic to the food that helps to get rid of ick.
I do have nori with garlic in the tank on a clip and he does nip at it all day.
This is highly likely not anything pathogenic but Hlle and the little bumps could be nitrate toxicity or cysts.
What test kits are you using ?
What is your ammonia-ph-nitrate-salinity levels?
What diet are you offering the fish?
I have red sea marine test kit. Ammonia and nitrate are as close to 0 as my display tank. salinity is 1.026, ph is 7.8 in the early morning then closer to 8 in the afternoon.
Emerald entree (with mysis) and nori with garlic are refreshed times a day. I net out 80% of the floaters after 15 min of feeding.

In this case, I can't tell you what to do.. those spots look Much larger than any ick spots I have personally seen. The coming and going is indicative of ick. The blemishes after it falls off does not necessarily.

If this Was MY fish. I'd be feeding the heck out of it. Vitamin enriched and varried as often as it will eat.

I would put it In a hospital tank and treat with copper safe. I would be taking daily notes and pictures. Copper can take a few days to work but it will work if the pathogens are copper sensitive. If there is still recurrence of these spots continuous through copper, I would be prepared to change gears.

I would do everything possible to reduce stress like having no lights on in the QT. Gentle flow, and plenty of aeration.

With HLLE and what is not parasite I would not treat with coppersafe (at least yet) but rather consider a 5 minute Freshwater bath to eliminate chance of any flukes and Focus on water quality and diet.
For diet:
-Spirulina brine shrimp
- LRS Herbivore diet
- mysis shrimp
- small plankton
- Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
- Hikari Marine cuisine
- Formula 2 flake and frozen
- Hikari veggie marine

Add selcon vitamins to the foods 2-3X per week and on alternating days, garlic extract for stamina and immunity health

I believe we safely ruled out ich and have been feeding a huge variety 3-4 times a day for that past 3 days. The few bumps cleared up before the coppersafe arrived, but the line pattern along the back is looking much better. I think he got too skinny and his bones poked out. This morning my son made a case for getting him back into one of our main tanks, mainly due to water quality, flow, space to swim and less stress when feeding. I think he looks much better in the past 10 hours. He is eating algae off rock, nori, and tearing up Rod's herbivore blend! Thanks for all the advice and info shared.

a month later, last update. Tang is healthy and been eating a ton. I think he was starved when we received him. He still has scares were I think his bones protruded, but thanks everyone for the information provided. I think I would not have him now without your guidance.
