I have a Kole and Purple Tang in QA half way through 14 days of copper before transferring to new sterile QT. There is some bickering but never has been bad enough to make me feel like i needed to split them up. Today i noticed the Kole has a small gash toward his tail that is raised but doesn't look infected.

Should i start antibiotics or wait to see if it starts looking infected? I have had fish heal outside from wounds like this one their own but with a weakened immune system in copper not sure if it will heal.

it should heal on its own. Melafix will help if you feel the need to keep it in check

Separate them.

I had the same thing occur. Started off getting along then after a week or so the fighting began and 1 ended up with an injury that got infected. I separated and started kanaplex and neoplex. Finished QT and all 4 are still doing great!

Wow, thats great! Yeah it seems like they have moments they are getting along just fine then start backing into each other. Probably doesnt help they are in a 20 gallon long. I may going this route since they still have 1 week of copper and at least 2 weeks observation left. I thought the 2 from a different genus would have an easier time.

The fish is already over medicated. Just leave it alone as antibiotics or any medication will disrupt the fishes gut bacteria actually causing it to heal slower, if at all.

How are the tangs doing?
They are doing well. the wound didnt seem any worse the last couple of days and he is pretty active and doing normal tang things..haha. I am keeping an eye on them and if any other wounds pop up i will get them separated.

Havent added any antibiotics. Just keeping a close eye on it and trying to keep the water quality up. Counting down the days to move them out of copper to the sterile QT.

Copper also causes open sores. It used to happen all the time before we had test kits.
