Tang wont eat after prazi

Filter floss and just ceramic bio media. Any suggestions. Its a AIO tank. I have a poly filter
I just wanted to make sure the bacteria had a site to live. I’m scratching my head as to where the ammonia is coming from - no uneaten food in the tank?

I even scrapped the bare bottom to and sucked all the nasty water up. I cleaned the PVC pipe thats in it to.

I ran this same tank for months and QT a firefish for 3 months.

A couple of things I see here that may contribute and please ignore the comment about Poison,.. . . SMH

Praziquantel does reduce both oxygen and appetite so I wouldnt be too concerned UNLESS fish is getting thin.
The Copper needs to be achieved at treatment level in 24-36 hours. Spacing it and building it often offers parasite resistance and is of no Advantage. The product I assume is coppersafe or Copper power and should be at 2.5 but no less than 2.25 to take effect. Treatment is fr a full 30 days and the 30 days start at full level, Not 2.0

What foods are you offfering it ?
What is current ammonia and nitrate level and what test kit are you using?

Increase oxygen if you have not done so already with an airstone and water quality important dutring treatment - just needed to emphasize that
30 days at 2.5? I hear so many different opinions on this. I’ve seen 8, 14, 30. Your opinion is firmly 30 days huh?

30 Days if copper
Prazi- Treat for an 8 day interval, do water change and treat one more 8 day interval

Lol its not poison

Copper is toxic, but not fatal when done properly. Copper gets blamed for a lot of issues, most are not deserved, especially the amine-bonded products.

IMO - 30 days with an amine-based copper medication, beyond the date that trophonts were last seen is best. If there are extenuating circumstances, or if you are using ionic copper, then 21 days can work.

Thanks Jay. So what is it that we’re doing with 21 or 30 days? If the ich falls off the fish within 7 days, and you’re at therapeutic levels, why so long? Do some of the ich survive? The life cycle is somewhat reliable in most stages. If you take the fish out of the copper QT and leave behind any possible ich that’s sitting on surfaces, what is happening that makes it not 100% at 7 or even 14 days?

Copper doesn't kill the resting, tomont stage. Ich life cycles are just not as "clean" as some people would have you believe - the timing varies, as does where the tomonts may be lurking. Also, these amine-based coppers are gentle on the fish, but they work slowly....you cannot always see small trophonts on a fish, so you need some "buffer time".

The extenuating circumstances would be for fish that are not stable in QT; ammonia issues, fighting, etc.
The ONLY downside to going 30 days is that the fish can't be put into your DT as soon, and that is more a patience thing (grin).

ofc it's poison it you think medication don't poison the fish? copper is very toxic to fish google it you will find out

Copper is a "poison" in the broad sense of the term, but it is NOT deadly to fish when used properly. Amine-based coppers are fine for use in all but sharks and rays. This is where Google fails, it is simply a case of old information being repeated forever on the Internet - copper deaths in fish all relate to either improper administration or they are referring to ionic copper. That material (copper sulfate and citric acid) is pretty tricky to use and will cause fish loss if overdosed by a few tenths of a PPM. Other fallacies include "latent mortality" in fish that have been treated with copper - there simply is no long term effect.

it may not be deadly at a certain ppm but it is still toxic to fish

No, copper is NOT toxic to fish when properly used. There is no sub-lethal effect causing acute issues. We need to avoid saying that because it only fosters misinformation.

Too many times we see people delay using copper because they "heard it is toxic". Then, as their fish are dying, they relent and use it....but the fish continue to die. That isn't the fault of the copper, but rather, the delay in starting a proper copper treatment. They then go on to say, "yeah, I used copper and all my fish died...." and the myth continues.

On my Quarantine Tank I also use water from my Main Tank, for Water Changes. The Largest Tetra Whisper Filter on the 3O Gallon. I never Wash the Foam Filters, just Rinse and Squeeze them out in my discard water. Media Filters are Swapped and Cloroxed, Rinsed and hung to dry for next time. PVC Pipe and Some Fittings, for a place for the fish too hide, and swim on and out of. It’s always set up and ready to go. Never had a Problem with Ammonia.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of QT? QT is supposed to be clean and sterol. If you add water from main tank that's just adding the same parasites from the tank. Now that's if the fish already came from the tank i assume.

Although that isn't the best practice, it won't hurt anything in the long run, since the fish in the QT are destined to go into the DT at some point. It gets a bit messy if you have multiple DTs though.

I have literally been running this QT with no copper for a week. I stripped it out Monday and it was at zero by Tuesday. I dosed biospira also on Monday and added more media. Zero Ammonia in the last three days. I check ammonia at 10 o’clock this morning zero. Did a 40% wc and dosed more bacteria. Then added ammonia to 1.46 level. Just checked ammonia after dosing everything around 10:30. 2:30 now. Level is at 1.0. W T F

Can coppersafe cause ammonia

This was yellow at 10.

Yes, as I mentioned, coppersafe is amine complexed and a full dose will show as around 0.50 ppm ammonia on an accurate test kit (I used a spectrophotometer to get that reading). If you are seeing 1ppm after dosing coppersafe, there is either another half a ppm from another source, or your test kit isn’t accurate.
