Tang won't eat in QT

Have a 3"-4" Tang that's been in QT for 5 days and hasn't eaten. Tried Nori, Mysis, flakes and LRS. Contacted vendor a he states that fish was eating flakes, mysis etc. Told him my QT was a 10 gal. and he says it's too small and the fish is stressed. Opinions?

I agree to small. Try and give him a Pot or hiding spot, or better yet try and Get a bigger tank.

I heard that prazi pro suppresses appetite. Also a 10 gallon is way too small for a 3-4 inch tang. My QT is a 40 breeder and I think you should not go smaller than 20 gallon for QT.

Just started the prazi yesterday and he wasn't eating before starting the treatment. Other than not eating he looks good. My current stand will hold a 20 gal. but not a 40.

What kind of tang? Personally, unless the fish presents with obvious symptoms, best to get them eating prior to using meds .... and the tank is too small. 30L is my go to QT for almost all my fish.

Try for at least a 30 Long or a 40 Breeder....as big as you can reasonably provide. And try to make it as homey as you can.

Prazi can suppress appetites, but so can internal parasites, so if it wasn't eating, treating with prazi can at least eliminate the internal parasites.

A 10g isn't ideal, but better than nothing. Providing cover will help it settle.

Have you tested ammonia? It can become present quickly in a qt and contribute to hunger strikes.

Live brine, red nori, and live black worms are my go to foods to get finicky tangs eating.

Yeah unfortunately there's level of reason for Quarantining IMO. Small QT are not adequate for medium size fish and can do more harm than good.

I've kept 11 small tangs, 4 angels, and 2 wrasse in a qt for 60 days with meds and everyone did fine. Of course, large frequent water changes were necessary to keep water quality up.

Lots of people do lots of things ..... doesn't mean they're all good ideas. If I had 'invested' in a Gem tang, I'd make sure that the QT was a opulent as possible. Buying a 30L QT is less than a single fin on that fish.

This is true........my decision was based on the following:

How to setup a QT - The following are the bare essentials:

• Aquarium (10-30 gallons seems to work for most people. Bigger QT lets you house more fish and gives you more wiggle room when it comes to ammonia. Smaller QT is cheaper, easier to maintain and can be setup/broke down quickly.)

The 10 gal. was readily available seemed to suit the need at the time. Will get a larger system for the future.

If I had a 3-4" Gem tang shoehorned into a 10 gallon tank and it wasn't eating, I'd be at Petco over my lunch hour buying a bigger tank ..... Jus sayin'
