Tang wont eat Nori.

I've had Juvenile Chevron for ~ 4 months now. He's in with 3 wrasses and 2 clowns. Knock on wood its the least aggressive tank I've ever seen, they all hang out and swim around together like a happy family. Issue is he will not eat Nori.. I've clipped it, banded it to rocks, soaked it in garlic, shredded it in pieces and put it in frozed etc etc.. just wont eat it..

He eats like a pig.. but only meaty foods and pellets (wont eat spirulina pellets) he races the wrasses to any type of meat, mysis, brine, reef frenzy etc..

Occasionally I've gotten him to eat the stick on spirulina tabs as they dissolve but only if I skip a meal.. but then all the fish even the wrasses eat it..

Im open to other ideas and suggestions, Im just worried about his long term health. Is this a valid concern?

They really are more of micro algae eaters, especially when young in the wild. Consider making a "fish smoothie" using frozen fish cubes: mysis, brine, chopped clams, reef mix and algae (see pic below). Mix one or two of each cube and place into the fridge to "slump." Mix a bit and pour off excess liquid. The mix will stay good for several days in the fridge.

Have you tried different kinds of nori? I have 5 different kinds of tangs and some seem to like different nori. Some love red, some green, some of the ones with garlic flavor, some don’t care. I’ve started adding all three kinds to each clip to slowly get them to associate with all types.

Also, for one tang that refused to eat nori at first, I ripped up small pieces and soaked it in with LRS and mysis. That helped too.

Thank you RazorD , I actually didn't realize that there were different color Nori's. Ill try that next.
I have tried soaking the green nori in garlic and mixing it with mysis it seems that if he gets a piece by "mistake" he just spits it out..
He does spend the day picking at rocks but I don't have a lot of visible algea. I'm just trying to make sure his diet is balanced, right now he just seems like a little kid that wants to eat candy all the time...

Yeah, I have some that only wanted red to start, some green, some would eat anything- others wouldn’t touch it. One wouldn’t touch it until he was in a tank with other tangs and saw them do it. Go figure

maybe try romaine lettuce? my clown tang will not touch any sheet algae, but loves lettuce. I rinse it off thoroughly with RO, and clip it on the glass.

It is essentially brine shrimp mixed with greens. Then, my R2R secret Santa sent me a package of Julian Sprung's Sea Veggies -- Purple Sea Weed. I thought what the heck. He loved it and gobbled it up like crazy. After that, he started eating all kinds of nori. Are you an AZ Frag member? If you are going to the next meeting I can bring you some to try out.

I picked up some romaine last night, so ill try that when the lights come on.. Funny story, I put it on the wife's grocery list yesterday afternoon, and between my hand writing and my spelling the Chevron was set to receive some "Ramen" noodles today...

Dont feel bad my angels and powder brown tang hide when I put a piece of nori of any color in there . Like literally no interest at all . They will eat frozen no problem minus my regal angel who only goes crazy for...pellets ! Lol I guess that's a good problem to have right. I do mix the algaemax pellets in with the regular ones to get some diversity in there for him. Maybe I'll try the romaine too
