In a 120-gallon? Depends on the tangs. I have 4 in my 160-gallon: whitetail bristletooth, half black mimic, sailfin and powder brown.Nice man I’m in the same boat trying to plan a stock list for a 120. Those white tail bristletooth tangs are gorgeous. There’s just too many stunning tangs to choose from Lol I have 4 on my list but I’m wondering what’s the max # of tangs in a 120…4-5 maybe?
How long is the tank? Ive got a six foot with a blue, purple and yellow! Tominis stay small, so do koles. If you do those add last. I had a horrible yellow eye kole that was horrible to new and existing fish! Took her back to LFS, now all my tangs are best buddies and everyone is calm in the tank! Convicts are cool and peaceful too from what Ive heard!I am setting up a 120 gallon mixed Reef tank and was wondering what tangs to put in. Preferably easy ones as thos is my first tank.
From what Ive learned with my tangs the longer the tank the better chance you have of them getting a lot. Ive got 3 in my 125 six foot long. Had a 4th but she got evicted for bulling all fish and causing all my tangs to fight. Now that shes gone my 3 (yellow, purple, and blue) all are best buds and swim togetherNice man I’m in the same boat trying to plan a stock list for a 120. If you want those guys add the blue and gold first at the same time and then add the yellow and purple last! My two dudes are cool now but my purple was not happy when the yellow went in and I had to put his butt in a no no (acclimation) box for a week.Nice, when the time comes I’m hoping these 4 I have in mind get along in a 48x24x24: Biota Yellow, Purple, Blue Hippo & Gold Rim. The previous owner had 4 tangs and they somehow all got along well. I’ve also heard of someone else here on R2R have 7 tangs in a 120 gal. which seems a bit much. I’m just hoping there won’t be too much aggression. No way I could afford to add them all at the same time![]()
Awe why you gotta hate on purples?? They are so pretty so therefore Ill deal with their attitude haha. My favorite fish! This might be helpful. "Purple tang = domestic terrorist", lol.

The most aggressive tang vote
Would like to gather community opinion on the most aggressive tang they have personally experienced. in my tank maintenance days I have personally witnessed sohal tangs murder an entire tank. What tang belongs in the asylum in your opinion? Even though tangs live and move in large congregation...www.reef2reef.com
Domestic reef terrorist... just saying...Ill never not have a purple in my tank! He is so stunning to look at and very active

Those are some stellar lookin’ tangs man!! I’ve heard so many stories about evil purple tangs but they are stunning even as juveniles. I think like you said as long as I add them in the right order they should be fine. Or time out time hahaAwe why you gotta hate on purples?? These are my tang gang friends! The purple is by far the biggest in size
Thank youThose are some stellar lookin’ tangs man!! I’ve heard so many stories about evil purple tangs but they are stunning even as juveniles. I think like you said as long as I add them in the right order they should be fine. Or time out time haha
I love them a lot. The purples name is Nix. I got mine as an adult from someone on FB and totally expected him to turn into the terrorist everyone says. He was mean to my yellow when I first put the yellow in, had to separate them 3 days now they follow each other around and are best buds! He loves Mr Bubbles (the yellow) and Bandit (the blue) just does his own thing. But ad far as aggression only seen him tail strike other tangs. But when I took my evil bristletooth tang out he mellowed out and no sign of aggression from him at all even to new editions! By far my favorite fish
