Tangs for a 125 gallon reef tank

Hello, I was wondering what tangs would fit in a 125 gallon reef tank?

Most any but you MUST keep in mind both temperament and growth size potential/ Powder blue will be nasty and grow quickly as an example. With the amount of coverage needed for them, you will have 100 useable gallons.

Everyone says that about the PBT. I guess I have been lucky because mine has been fine for 8 years.

Kole, mimics, yellow, purple, any of the zebras would fine, etc.. I’d stay away from hippos, naso, etc.. they grow fast into monsters.

my hippo went from 1/2” to almost 4” in a year 1/2 in a 150 lolol quickly out grew my scopas and had a huge appetite

I tend to be near the lower end of loading larger fish in aquarium. Most of the tangs are fine if you put them in largish tanks and feed them plenty.
I would recommend three smaller size tangs in a standard 125 (5 foot tank). A yellow or purple, a Kole or Tomini (or another of this genus), and a Convict. This group will do just fine in a 125 and stays relatively small.

This is the best recommendation right here. One of each of the main genus without any of the risky/larger varieties.

I have a purple, PBT, whitetail, and convict in my
225g and it’s pretty harmonious. I can’t imagine the PBT in anything smaller, though.

Of the Z tangs, I think Black, Scopa and Sailfin would get too large for your tank.

A Yellow Eye Kole is worth it’s weight in gold for keeping your rock looking good and I would keep one in any tank where I could keep more than one Tang. Be different and get Maculiceps. Not as expensive as a Dussimer but they’re not as mean and they look great. Don’t ever pay for a Dussumier unless you’re completely sure it’s not a Bahianus!

I do mean, IMO, they are too large size tangs for a 125 of the OP since these advices were for the OP’s tank.

These aren’t my pictures. I have some years in the business and they’re one of my favorites I could find on a more consistent basis from suppliers. I always end up with some tattered and beat up Tang someone brought in with HLLE and nurse them back to health. I think that a lot of places don’t order them because they don’t get requests. Call a couple places and see if they’re available from their suppliers. I will check some lists and see if they’re around right now.

Tang(singular). I recommend a white Tail or a gem tang. May as well get a stunner since you should only have one. I love my white Tail! You other option is a yellow or tomini.

I currently have 7 but a much larger tank than yours.. my half black mimmic is my favorite of all..

hey, I'm hopefully picking up a half black mimic for my 120 gal in a month or so, what's their aggression like? Are they good algae eaters?

To who? I'm adding a Tamarin wrasse at the exact same time, already have a yellow assessor with good territory established, the only thing I'm planning in the future is 2 or 3 ish fish from this list:
(Bluethroat triggerfish pair, pyramid butterflies, meleagris leopard, pictillis anthias, some other Tamarin, Halichoeres wrasse, large fairy wrasse of some type) should i be good? It's coming in as a 2-3 inch juvenile.
