I feel in love with tangs so after only a few months of my 55 gallon im ready to upgrade. At first i was going to wait until the start of next year and get the 210 gallon tank at my LFS (which i love the tank and stand but its 3500) but i was looking on facebook and someone near me is selling a 200 gallon square tank with stand and turf scrubber for 1000. would that be ok for tangs? i've heard a 6 foot tank is best but wanted more thought i this. i'm willing to pass up a good deal if it means i won't be able to keep happy tangs.

In my opinion I would maybe wait for a 6 foot tank as tangs enjoy more swim due to them being extremely active fish, this becomes more vital if you are thinking about keeping different species of tangs as a more spacious 6ft tank will prevent many aggression problems, personally I would wait as summer time is nearing which usually means many used tanks will enter the market for a good price. Hopefully this helped.

yellow tang, blue tang and i love the naso tang but that guy is huge

For the blue and naso I believe that a six foot would be better then a square, the yellow would be fine as they arent the biggest tang but the other two guys get big.

for me a naso is a must have

I agree with the other fellow reefer that if you get them small you can keep them for a while, what are the dimensions of the tank, because honestly if its like around five feet you will probably be fine.

A 6 footer would of course be best, but i keep several tangs in a 48"x38" display. The smaller you get the fish, the longer you can keep them happy. What are the dimensions of the 200 square?

You will get many opinions, but if you purchase small 3" or so, you'd have a good couple years. Keep in mind, unless you're willing to give away, fish can be very hard to rehome.

I purchased a Gem Tang that is already too big for my Aquarium. Next upgrade willbe a 360 or 540 (6x4 or 6x6) - the minimum size for a Tang over 6 inches.

im more of a forever home kinda guy

You can probably keep them for around a year or two depending on the size you get them but a in my opinion this wouldnt really work as a permanent home for them, so you would probably have to get rid of them eventually which can sometimes be a challange.

If i was you I would wait till the summertime when many people choose to sell their tanks due to lack of time for maintenance and the prices are usually better around this time anyways.

Well i cant say for sure but I know that now the market is kinda dry everywhere, so I would wait bit and just keep saving money for when the right tank comes along, you dont want to make a hasty decision that ends costing you in the long run. Plus a tank that size is very expensive to set up properly so its always good to try to buy one that has already been set up and has all it needs to run properly.

my plan was to set up slowly anyways to the point where i might even have the tank for months before water even goes in it

Yellow would be absolutely fine in a 4x3. Blue (assuming regal) isn't ideal. Not a good tank for any of the Naso tangs.

If Naso is a must have, and you are a forever home kind of guy, 8 foot is best.

I would buy the used tank and buy small fish. However I would start saving for a tank upgrade in the future for your tangs that may get to big for their home. I feel some fish will grow into their tank, while a couple can outgrow their tank. You can also keep your eyes open for a nice used dream tank while everyone is in the 4th tank. I have kept tangs for thirty years, and only had one dori that outgrew the tank.
