You hear different opinions on this ICK disease.. One I hear is if you have an ICK infestation remove all fish for 4 to 6 weeks to kill the eggs .. no hosts its gone.. I was just visiting a fish/coral site looking at the Tanks and I see this at the end of the description....NOTE: Tangs are very susceptible to getting ich; always quarantine them before introducing them to your main tank... Now this is telling me (1).. the fish store has ick in its system or ( 2) you can get ick from fish stress (3) you always have ICK in your tank its just dormant.

Why would a high quality fish store tell you this fish gets could get ICK... If I have no ICK in my system...

Fish stores have a hard time controlling diseases/parasites due to the fact they have a lot of fish coming in and going out. Unless they have a full QT system and every fish that comes in goes through that QT system it’s going to be hard to control. Plus on LFS it would be very expensive to QT all fish and then would have to charge a premium on the fish. So they could keep diseases/parasites at bay by running copper in the system but most fish aren’t in the copper long enough to eradicate. Plus most fish can still carry ich without signs of said disease. So this is why you should QT every fish regardless of where you buy it from. Hope this makes sense!

I agree with your assessment .. I guess I didn't clarify.. It was an online high end retailer Aqua Locker I was checking out.. I believe they quarantine the fish before they sell them.. so if their fish gets ICK that means it came with ICK, if you do not have any issues in your DT or in your QT.. that's all Im trying to find out.. and no I did not buy a fish from them.. Its just for general knowledge.

Thanks for reply..

Agreed if your DT/QT is parasite free and you buy a fish and then an outbreak happens that fish was a host of said parasite. Even if I bought from AQ and they said they QT all fish. I honestly will still QT at home. Nothing is entering my DT without QT regardless if a vendor said they QT. Things happen and could slip by, I’m not willing to tear apart my tank because I relied on a vendor to QT fish unless it was from a very reliable source!!
