I have 4 tangs and none of them will touch the GHA in my tank... also tried to buy a lawnmower blenny and he won't eat it either, he will only eat frozen/flake food lol.

Anyone else have tangs that don't eat GHA? Lol

Don't feed them for a day and see what happens??? How thick is the GHA?

Maybe look into some Mexican turbo snails. Mine mow that stuff down!

Are you sure its GHA and not some form of bryopsis? I had the same situation until somone pointed out that what i had was infact not common GHA but one of the many types of bryopdis that looks very much like GHA. I have yet to find any fish, snail, or other invert that will touch it.

I had a large Naso and Sohal when I had my GHA issues. they would not touch it. Most tangs wont eat GHA in my opinion. they want something more macro to fill their bellies.

Don't feed them for a couple days. Watch what they do for you then.

Sounds like you need a sea hare, I've never been able to get any of my fish to eat it. If you get one just be sure to take him out when is gone or he'll starve.

Agreed to all. If you shift your feeding patterns on the Tangs they will eat it up, but if you go back to normal feedings, they will stop eating it again. Best option would be to figure out where your getting your phosphate issue from and fix that, or dump some GFO or Chemipure Elite in there to soak it up. The GHA is feeding off of something.

I recently went through the same thing gary. Tang wouldnt eat it neither would lawnmower blenny. It looked like dark green hair algae. I know tangs eat light green hair algae because i feed them from my scrubber all the time and he gobbles it up like spaghetti. Its probably bryopsis or some other algae my phos was 0.00 so it wasnt a nutrient issue. What i did to get rid of it was leave lights off 3 days and it all died off and hasnt come back. As long as you keep nutrients low it shouldnt come back.

I'v noticed they wont eat the longer strands, they like it when its short little stubby GHA, scrub with a toothbrush and they should clean up the rest, my Lawnmower and yellow tang are algae destroying machines.

Actually mine eats the big long strands of gha. And i scrubbed mine with a toothbrush and it all grew back. At least in my case im sure it wasnt gha.

Try using peroxide in small areas and small doses to see if that can help clear it up. I turned off all my pumps and filled a 10mL syringe with peroxide and sprayed the base of the algae, and all over the rock near the base of the algae. It bubbled like crazy for a few minutes, the next day it went all clear in color and the next day it was all gone. This was just in one area though. I tried another area and didn't have any luck...

I have a powder brown tang and he does eat some GHA but not enough to make a difference. He literally begs for flake food though. I've had good luck with turbo snails. The snails don't always graze where you want but when they get on a spot they mow it down like a lawnmower. They also tend to bulldoze frags and rock work though so you've got to have sturdy structure.
