Ok I'm planning my stock for my 150 ga tank. I like Atlantic blue, powder blue and white tail bristle tooth tangs. These fish can be pricey. I need input on selecting two for my tank. I've read a bunch of differing views on the subject but I guess I want to know, if I pick two and add at same time, is there a good chance of a peaceful, death free tank?

I haven't read about too many people having a bristle tooth (white tail). Should I be looking at kole instead. I just want that orange.

This is merely what I would do but does not mean it is the only (or best) way necessarily.

I would introduce the bristletooth first as they are typically the most docile of the three.
You may want to consider a Tomini for their orange fins or if you want to spend the $$ can't go wrong with a Chevron.

Best bet for the remaining two would be to add them at the same time if possible.
As juveniles they should be well behaved but as they mature one or both may not take kindly to new tangs introduced into their tank.

Edit: Will mention these fish will do best in mature displays with plenty of live rock to forage.
Just noticed you are planning but do not have the 150 yet so first and foremost be patient and let that tank mature first.

I agree with jdl, add the bristletooth first. I love my whitetail bristletooth very laid back fish. They are coming in more often lately so the price might come down. I got mine from Pacific East .

Ok. Yea I'm planning for months down the road. Tank is on its way so maybe July before tangs . I just want 2 tangs. I don't want to push my luck too much

Anyone have any experience with wanatanbei Angels? Its rated "difficult". Is this something's regarding feeding?

I have had mine about a year. She is 'queen' of my tank. I think they sometimes don't ship well, especially the males.

The only difficult thing about feeding mine is finding something she won't eat (mysis, nori, LFS, pellets, eats it all).

just to give my experience...
I added my Powder Blue and my Purple at the same time.
the Powder was picked on in its previous tank by a yellow tang and the powder was about 3.5 inches to 4 inches.
the Purple was about 5 inches and was not previously with the powder blue.
Both introduced at same time to my 6 foot 150 gal after a few months of healing for the powder blue it became a big aggressor, chasing the purple and they would fight back and forth. Powder also started beating the crap out of my blenny whenever it saw it eating food and would pick at corals as well.
It was like in a constant eating mode, as if it was afraid if it did not eat anything and everything someone else would eat it before him...

Anyway Powder blue went bye bye. Was sad too cause i nursed it back and it was gorgeous looking after it recovered from its last tank.

I've read a few nasty things about powders now. Decided against it. I'll get my whitetail and..... I dont know. I have 150 ga to plan for.

My Bristletooh was very shy for the first few months, now 2nd in charge behind my powder blue which was the same way at first. I have them both in a 180 with several other tangs, even my feisty yellow tag backs down to them both.. Just my experience

What other tangs do you have? That'd be suitable for 150 ga tank? My tank says its 150 but in actually volume of water held, it's more like 130. I'm trying to be smart about which fish to get and in what order

I bought a small tomini tang that I introduced with a midsized fox face.... It is a great looking tang...I like the Orange color of its fins. Both are doing well and have hit hair algae hard in the tank. I am on the hunt for a couple more tangs... Perhaps a purple... I would like a small Naso.... My tank is a 6 ft long 180.

Good luck!

I have a Bristletooth, Powder Blue, Yellow, Lavender, and Naso Tang. I also have 2 gold-spotted rabbitfish, yellow foxface and a magnificent foxface. The reason I listed them is because sometimes they have issues with tangs as well. My advice is to introduce more than 1 tang/rabbitfish at the same time that way the previous tangs are confused on who to chase/pick on. Good luck, let us know what you choose and how you make out.

I had a Powder blue with a Blue lined Rabbitfish, Niger Trigger and Chocolate Tang. The Powder would just swim a lot eating as much as he possibly could. The only time he was aggressive was during feeding time. If someone broke off a big piece of Nori he would chase them down and snatch it out of their mouth. The Chocolate would beat up on my trigger a little bit, but the trigger would hold his own. Beside that the tank was peaceful. Personally I love the Powder blue tang.
