I'll be re stocking my fish in my 75 gallon in the next couple of months due to a parasite outbreak and couldn't save my other fish unfortunately. Still have 4 fish in my DT I need to get out and then I'm gonna go 9 weeks fallow before adding any fish back. I just wanna start planning my livestock. I was to know what is a good hearty tang for a 75 gallon. I really wanna stay away from yellow tangs. These are my least favorite. Any suggestions. Also if any of you have a whole live stock suggestion. I would love to hear it. I'm in the process of cycling 2 quarantine tanks. I also have a cleaner wrasse and 2 clowns right now in my hospital tank.

75 limits you somewhat. Most of the bristles would be OK, as well as zebras when small.

Purple tang. Much smaller than most of the others, and will at least be 2 or 3 years before it's cramped in a 75g. If you find a nice small one.

+1 on the tomini. They stay pretty small. Mines pretty shy but I've never actually seen another tomini so others might not be as timid. Brisletooth tangs are super cool too

I would care to mention that 9 weeks is only 63 days.. Literature suggests that 76 days (11 weeks) is optimal to ensure your tank is parasite free. This of course depends on what killed the fish as some diseases/parasites can live without fish and use photosynthesis to live.

Just a little fyi.

I would recommend a Tomini or maybe a Kole or some other bristle tooth.

Thank you everyone. I'll wait it out. I like spotted bristletooths a lot. I'm not a huge fan of tominis because of their shyness I had one years ago and he was the same way. Do you think a chocolate tang will be okay on a 75? Also known as mimic lemon peel.

None of the acanthurus tangs are suitable for a 75 IMO. Bristletooths are really the best option. My favorite is the white tail bristle tooth. Two spot and square tail are also cool, especially as juvies.

Coral beauty angel, we have one and one of my personal favs [emoji4] jawfishes are pretty cool too

Did you ever make any decisions about tangs? I have an 80gal and I'm hoping to get a tang or maybe 2 in the next few months.. My favorites now are squaretail bristletooth, two spot bristletooth, convict tang, and the caribbean blue tang although I think it'd outgrow my 80gal pretty quickly.

Yeah I got a chocolate tang. Some way some how I got ich again. I refuse to tear apart my reef again. So hopefully I can get him healed within the reef. I've done it long ago so I hope to once again. I'm frustrated. Quarantined everything for 9-11 weeks and some how still got it.

What plan do you intend to implement for in tank treatment?

Well the best thing to do would be go fallow again but for 100 days. But after getting this again I can't bring myself to tear apart my reef for the second time in 11 weeks. So I am going to try and treat in DT with food and do my best to limit stress and keep the ich at bay. Fish can live with this if they are healthy and stress free so I'm gonna try. Think of it as a common cold. Your immune system gets weak you get sick. Vitamins and food makes us strong to fight sickness. So that's what my plan is. Tangs are very hearty fish. Yes they get diseases easily but that's because of there slime coat. My friends has ich present in his aquarium and his Achilles gets it all the time but it comes and goes and that fish is 12 years old.

What corals do you have in the tank? Get some Selcon and start treating your seaweed. Also, get some live foods to feed him if possible. Get him happy & fat & his immune system should be able to fight it off.

You added a chocolate tang just now to the display?
